Increasing sidewall height on stock Rays
I initially thought of going 285/35-19 all around. I just put on 285's on the rear and that increased the diameter .4" so there's less wheel gap now for a pseudo lowered look. For the front, the driver side wheel already has a bent lip and is warped from NYC potholes. I was wondering about going up to 245/45/19 or 275/40/19 which would give a full inch more sidewall for wheel protection and less wheel gap so it'll look lowered without actually being lowered. Only thing I'm questioning right now is if the extra sidewall will have a noticeable hit on handling and driver feel. I'm very particular on the road feel and choose my tires according to the 'Steering Response' according to Tirerack's surveys.

Those tire sizes will rub the plastic liner up front. I run 295/40-18 (about .5" shorter) up front on my race wheels and I've worn a small hole in the plastic liner. And that's at stock ride height.

Don't these effect you speedometer reading? Or can the ECU be reprogrammed?

You also need to watch the front vs rear rolling diameter - get too far out and it messes with the ABS braking systems

to clarify, i'm all about function. i do drive my car hard drifting and other sorts of spirited driving. i decided to go with a square 285mm setup once my front tires wear out via cossie and other people who track their z's recommendation for better handling and grip. the purpose of this thread's idea is because i dd mine on very sh1tty nyc roads. both rear wheels have inch cracks on the inner lip which have been welded. the front driver side wheel is warped and has a bent lip from a big hotpole that i missed seeing at night, which will taken care of eventually. that's where the idea of increasing the front sidewall to a 45 series came about. the lowered look without being actually lowered was just an added bonus thought. as of now on stock height, my Borla exhaust pipes are completely flattened out. so 3 out of 4 wheels being damaged in 38k miles is pretty bad, even being forged. my old integra's oem alloys took a beating for almost 20 years and never had a problem, although they were 14s on 60 series tires. |

Higher ,side wall means bigger diameter,also much heavier...blunts the car's performance....anybody weights how much weight 275/40-19.?But the good thing is more comfortable ride.:bowrofl:

First, raising the rear with bigger tires. Doesn't that put even MORE weight on the front of car?
Second, I used to like to drive fast on country roads. I left my car's suspension 100% stock, just got a bit wider & better tires all around. The car handled great without it being a scoop for scraping up road kill. On my old 350, I installed 17" wheels with bigger/wider tires front & back. Result=a good stance with plenty of rubber for a smooth & great handling experience. I don't understand how anyone can enjoy their car when driving it over a small rock or a piece of wood will tear the front & underside of the car. I don't get it when I see people guiding the driver just to drive up a driveway :confused: I have only one picture (the rear)in my home page. No spacers & the car looks tough & clean looking. I wish I had more picks. Maybe later. |
