TPMS bomb DIY. So easy even a child can do it!

6 Attachment(s)
1. Obtain child
Attachment 77875
2. Obtain 4 inch PVC end cap, threaded end cap, PVC glue, Teflon tape, and a threaded plumbing inflation (Schroeder Valve)
Attachment 77876
3. Glue end cap to threaded end cap.

4 drill hole just a bit smaller than plumbing inflation valve.
Attachment 77877
5. Screw in valve
Attachment 77878
6. (Not pictured because Shadezz has all my TPMS sensors). Insert TPMS sensors (padded with bubble wrap or paper towels)
7. Make threads airtight with Teflon tape
Attachment 77880

awesome DIY! GJ to your kid. :icon17: hahaha

We have that blue whale tap protector too.

this is one happy kid!

I've done this with my truck sensors. Problem I have is after about week and a half. I have to put more air into it as it leaks out through the plastic pipe it self. Ended up using metal pipe. Food for thought. ;)

Thanks! I did not think of that!

I am going to plastidip inside of the PVC to "Seal" it!

PVC is not very gas permeable. I suspect you had a leaky Schrader valve, threads, joints, &c.

Jeez, making pipe bombs for TPMS? Seems a bit overkill (pun intended)

That depends on the plastic used. At work, I've seen PVC hold hydrogen gas with no problems, then seen it leak through the wall of the PVC using plant air. Go figure. :icon14:

One is likely to run into only two grades of PVC pipe at the local hardware store: building grade and piping grade. As far as gas permeability goes, there's not much difference between the two. Both are pretty much airtight when put together properly. If it will hold Hydrogen (I have my doubts but will take your word for it), it will hold anything you or I are likely to put in it.

FWIW, I would consider PVC pipe to be a very poor choice of materials to use in a car. It becomes brittle when cold and soft when warm (max working temperature is only 140F for building grade PVC). If one must use PVC, the method that uses two large caps looks like it would be the strongest.

ummm....ill ask. wtf is this for?????

glad someone else is confused. haha

i guess you put them in the car to fool the car to think you have the sensors in.... no?

i guess putting a happy face sticker over the TPMS warning light is too much work.

aaahhh that makes sense!!

por que??

paperboy42190 10-10-2013 05:35 PM

i was a bit confused at first but I guess it makes sense. you would need 4 of these to get rid of the dash light right?

why not just use the valve stem thats on the tpms as the fitting though? just like how it would work on a wheel.

Shadezz 10-10-2013 05:52 PM

Simple....have two sets of wheels(Track & Street)....instead of dealing with tmps light when one or the other is on....do this so you can leave sensors in the car no matter what wheels and tires you have on so the light doesn't come on.

You only need one large container. You drop all four in and pressurize it.

I've wondered about using one of the TPMS senders instead of buying another stem. Only thing I can come up with is the curve of the sender (to match curve of wheel) prevents a good seal. Just a wild guess.

Liquid_G 10-10-2013 09:00 PM

People have been doing this for years, here's one from club lexus where they use one of the stems as a valve for the bomb.. also doesn't include any kids in bathtub pics.. (not sure why OP needed to post that)

We been doing this on the Power Wagon forum since '08. ;)

This is the first one I made. Now the sensors sit in a stainless pipe that is TIG welded on both ends. :D

The pic of the kid in an Ironman suit wasn't really necessary either ... but it did lend a certain amount of "friendly humor" to the DIY. I thought it was a great touch.

You can if you want to. Dozen ways to do this. You could drill 4 holes or 1 use all the sensors or 1 or none. Doesn't matter, easier to install a stand alone nipple and through the 4 sensors in the pipe.

Point is to pressurize all 4 sensors to get the dash light to go off. Or pull the dash apart and cut the light. :tiphat: Also good write up by Baer383 http://www.the370z.com/wheels-tires/...self-free.html

Its a great idea...might scare the living **** out of any officer who saw it...but good stuff lol

kenchan 10-14-2013 10:02 AM

you guys really do put in a lot of effort for that one light. :D hahaha.

on my dd i can't turn off dynamic stability control with the tpms light illuminated.. for that car this would be great, but i heard it wont work as the sensors dont wake up while stationary. :(

Nut_N_Much 10-14-2013 11:40 AM

Already using it on a Lexus.. Works fine..

Fountainhead 10-14-2013 02:08 PM

I must say Surfdog, that's the first time I've ever seen anything like that to get rid of TPMS warnings! Very impressive. Just a common sense solution taken to a technical extreme. I bet a hermitically sealed container like that would last at least until the batteries in the TPMS run down.
Downright ingenious. Cute kid too. I think you've started something.

Rusty 10-14-2013 10:36 PM

Surfdog, did the light go out after you drove the Z for a block or 2? Or did it stay on? I know if my light is on. I put air in the tire. I have to drive about a block for the light to turn off. Wondering if it a preset distance the car has to go, or a number of wheel revolutions to get the light to turn off?

It went out sitting in the garage! works like a champ!

Rep???? lol :tiphat:

Apoc370z 10-16-2013 06:58 AM

Might be a stupid question, but why dont you want the tpms anyways?

I use two sets of wheels ad re-doing tpms every wheel swap is not practical

Unless the owner of the Z IS an officer.

SurfDog 01-09-2014 11:35 PM

Update: the threads on my screw on end-cap are not quite airtight. I had to pump it up now and then (once a month maybe?) on rebuild, I abandoned the idea of the leaky screwcap (which was there to make TPMS battery/componenet replacement a possibility when they eventually run out)

If I were to do it again I'd use a simpler "two endcaps glued together" design or possibly just an airtight metal pipe. When pressurized, the system works great.

MagmaRed370z 10-08-2014 07:34 PM

Good thread. Question, if I put other 370z wheels that came with TPMS (19rays) on my 370z with the 18 stockers , will the car recognize the new Z wheels without throwing a light? Or do I have to go to the dealer and have them reprogram?

So in short, remove 18 inch wheels. Install new 19 inch Rays with installed TPMS. Will it throw a Light?

cooltoy 10-08-2014 08:14 PM

It wil not recognize them. Only the original TPMSes wil be recognized.
