took car to shop today to get my spacers and springs installed ...

They installed the springs no problem. the front spacers I got h&r 20mm drs and 25mm drm for the back. They said I need a part for the front to be installed. They installed the back fine. They said I need to order a part or get different spacers. Any idea what they are talking about. Tmdid I order the wrong spacer for the front?

tibal 08-12-2013 06:56 PM

Maybe they didnt remove the bolt that is on the brake top hat before the spacer can be installed on it. They could also be talking about hubcentric rings. I am running the drs 20mm in the front on stock wheels with no hiccups when I installed them .

kenchan 08-12-2013 06:58 PM

brain maybe?

you got the drs which are stud replacement type, correct? that's the right ones.
i dont think you did anything wrong.

im89 08-12-2013 07:18 PM

Ok thanks guys because he charged me $200 for the springs and spacers install and don't know if hes going to do the front now. But now that I know they work I'm going back.

kenchan 08-12-2013 07:22 PM

yah, ask them wat "part" they're talking about.

/Angelo350Z/ 08-12-2013 08:39 PM

Maybe they're talking about hubcentric rings. But I have the same spacers and the H&Rs came with them.

kenchan 08-12-2013 08:53 PM

Its molded on the spacers, no? Its one piece

im89 08-13-2013 09:21 AM

Called the shop today and told me they have to charge me $50 to remove the bolt and put the spacers on. What you guys think?

I think they're being shady and trying to jack you for another $50.

theDreamer 08-13-2013 09:25 AM

Since they failed to do the install the first time, I would demand they finish what you paid for.

Chuck33079 08-13-2013 09:27 AM

Considering they couldn't figure out that the spacers would work fine if you took out the bolt on the rotor, do you even want them to do anything else to your car?

I would tell them that I'll be there in 5 minutes to remove the bolt myself for free.

$50 is like 50 minutes of labor? I think, but regardless, it doesn't take that long to remove a single bolt.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

I think its time to go to a new shop. I wonder if anyone is local that could help you out because taking that bolt off is a 5 minute job.

Chuck33079 08-13-2013 09:48 AM

I can't imagine an able bodied individual needing help to remove that bolt. If the OP is capable of removing the wheel to get to it, he has the necessary skill set to handle it.

wat about the "part" they needed to get?

im89 08-13-2013 10:05 AM

Yeah I understand they gave me a good price for the install with $200 but $50 to remove the bolt and put on the front when I paid for the everything is installed is crazy wouldn't of even mind $25. Looks like imma have to take it somewhere and probably still end up paying $50 for the front because it's pointless taking it to them now. I would try it myself I just don't want to mess anything up.

Chuck33079 08-13-2013 10:06 AM

Take the bolt out yourself and tell them to finish the job you paid them for already?

kenchan 08-13-2013 10:06 AM

if you go to another shop, they will probably charge you a full hour's work which in some areas could mean $75-100.

so the $50 is not a bad deal as a continuation for the work...but the part about them lying to you about this 'part' they need, that is not settling well with me.

they could've just told you they miscalculated the labor and asked you nicely if you can help out with the $50.

He avoided the whole parts discussion. Just in case you guys want to know the shop is called monkey wrench it's on liberty ave in queens I would avoid going there for people local in ny.

im89 08-13-2013 10:08 AM

That's my gripe with the whole situation.

:shakes head:

it's one thing to make a honest mistake, but trying to cover it up or make up stories... that is unacceptable.

Chuck33079 08-13-2013 10:10 AM

There's not a doubt in my mind there's someone local to you who would help you DIY the job for less. You might get out for just the cost of pizza and beer. Spacers are easy. The springs were the hard part, and the first shop already did that.

enkei2k 08-13-2013 10:11 AM

You're in Queens? Should just took the extra few minutes drive and go to RAD out in Oceanside.

They actually know what they're doing + supporting a forum vendor = win/win

im89 08-13-2013 10:21 AM

Def will go the for future mods. If anyone is willing to make quick money and knows what they are doing pm me.

You might have more responses by posting in your local subforum on here.

Thanks will do.

I think you got your answer....it's a 10mm bolt, I gues if you want to pay someone to take out a bolt then so be it but I think it's hilarious

It's not even called wrench time to take out this bolt....

I did the exact same job for my friend for pizza and brew lol

$50 to get that rotor bolt out is riduculous. Almost as ridiculous as the low price they charged you to install your springs. If I were you, I would just pay the $50, get the spacers installed, and get your car out of there. You'll forget all about it once you start driving your lowered Z with spacers .
