Anyone had front tire feathering / cupping?

In the front I am currently running 19x9.5 te37 with advan ad08 265/35/18 at 32 psi. Front alignment is at -2.0 and -2.2 camber. Toe is at 0.08. Pressure 32psi

These are feathered pretty nasty on the inside after 3000 miles. The camber is more than I need but camber alone doesn't generally cause feathering. I could run a few more psi up there too.

My RE-11s didn't have this problem. It's pretty annoying. Time to select another tire for up there.

Here's a pic of the feathering that I rotated to the outside, but was originally caused on the inside.

especially on the front, my tires wear on the inner treads much faster...unless i take turns real fast to balance out the wear. :D my car is stock alignment out of the factory. no lowering, etc.

Excessive camber definitely does create cupping.
Mine is within factory specs and I've got cupping on my Conti DW Extreme. Annoys the crap out of me. I may have had a bad alignment that caused this, but once it happens, there's no fixing it. Short of buying new tires.

im going to get back on the alignment rack shortly since i want to make some adjustments to the rear. i will make sure nothing has caused my front alignment to change. but overall i am pretty disappointed with nearly $400 a piece tires only lasting 6000 miles on non-driven wheels.

I think I will crank the pressure up to 40 for a little while and see what they do.

im running DW's right now. no issues with cupping, just wearing faster in the inner treads as did RE050A's, Advans, and DW's.

DW's are lasting longer, but the bridgestones and Advans only last about 8k miles for me. that's normal.

holy........It looks like your tread was completely shaved off! Maybe its just the angle of the pic but I would not drive on those...I would not recommend extra camber on the front if you're not driving on a track or driving aggressively. I'm just like Kenchan, I swing corners aggressively while daily driving to keep my wear 100% even all the way across. That was from going -2 in the front and -2.5 in the rear and perfect even wear all the way across all 4 tires.

Usually its toe being way off that causes tires to wear down that fast.......

theres a ton tread left.. the angle of the pic was taken just because it displays the feathering easily. the edges are sort of worn from camber but in the middle of the tire its pretty deep. i drive the car pretty hard.

im going to crank the pressure and do some understeering to see if i can flatten them out a little bit... otherwise in the trash they go! Maybe ill go back to RE11 in the front.

Put them on the back and go do a massive burnout? ;)

the thought crossed my mind, but i have a feeling my 315s on 18x12 +20 wont swap up to the front for me to do that!

Chuck33079 08-06-2013 03:03 PM

Yeah, that may rub a little.

phunk 08-06-2013 03:07 PM

Maybe ill put it on the 2 post lift, swap the fronts on to the rear, have a friend hold the throttle around 60mph, and try some gillette mach 3 turbos on the tread?

Chuck33079 08-06-2013 03:09 PM

That won't work. You need the 5 blade ones, not the three.

How do you like those? I was considering as my next set.
