Cheaper than stock tires? What is good?

I have a 2011 370 with sport package. My font tires are getting toward the end of their life. Unfortunately, money has become tight.

I am currently on the stock Potenza tires the car came with. The back tires were replaced when I bought the car used, about a year ago, and they look pretty good still.

What are my options? I don't want to give up too much performance, but a less expensive tire that wears a little slower would be nice. I am looking at used Potenza's, so that may be an option, at least until money picks back up again. What other brands should I be looking at?

I am in Texas BTW, so ice and snow is not an issue.

A popular less expensive tire would be the Hankook Ventus V12 tires.

I have no experience with those since I'm still on stocks, just going by what's presented on this forum.

i would look at the Bridgestone S04's first.

if not the Continental DW.

the S04's are much grippier than the RE050A and RE050A Polepositions for sure.

the DW's are also a good choice, but since are still using the RE050A's on the rear, go with the S04's.

What difference will I notice with the S04's compared to the stock tires? There is a pretty large price difference.

If the s04's are actually grippier, and last longer, why are they so much cheaper? I admit, I don't know much about tires, I normally would just buy the OEM if I had the money, but times are suddenly tougher than usual.

the S04's are superior tires to the RE050A (especially your stock ones as they are not pole positions). i run S04's on my G. they are very good tires and better than the RE050A polepositions for sure.

they're just on sale because bridgestone doesnt have the next gen RE11's available and need to sell twice the volume to fill the void.

These are the ones right?
Bridgestone*Potenza S-04 Pole Position

Just surprised that they are so much cheaper than the stock tires, and better performing. Why would anyone buy the RE050A if the s-04 are better and cheaper?

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's

Whole set will be under 1k.
Most reviews sites rate these close to the Michelins everyone on here recommends.
I thoroughly enjoy mine.

where would you buy those? I have never heard of them.

the origial prices are $300+ they are just on sale.

OEM parts are almost always more expensive than aftermarket. :) i recommend the S04's if you're keeping the rear RE050A's.

I replaced my fronts with the Hankook Ventus V12. They're much quieter than the stock tires, but there is definitely less responsiveness and you can feel the softer sidewall on turns. I'll probably try the Continental DW after these wear out, but the V12s are a solid tire for the money (my Z is a DD).

Red__Zed 06-06-2013 02:10 PM

What's important to you in your tires?

Tazicon 06-06-2013 02:15 PM

We run the V12s on our Z now. There are fine for a DD. if I tracked the car I would look at something else.

My car is my DD. I will probably never track it. I do enjoy good handling, and do push my car pretty frequently on back roads.

As long as a tire is pretty close to the performance I get from stock, I am happy. Road noise doesn't bother me much, and comfort is not a big deal.

I run continental dws on my Z, stock sizes. It is my DD, offers amazing traction in rain and cold roads. Decent in ice and snow, but decent is a huge improvement over stocks. I love them.
