Nismo vs Sport - why same tire in front, but not in rear?
 

So as we all know the sport model comes with 19x9 in front and 19x10 in the rear.

Nismo comes with 19x9.5 in front and 19x10.5 in the rear.

How come both use the 245/40/19 in the front, but different tires in the back (275/35/19 for sport and 285/35/19 for Nismo)?

I believe the 285's will fit just fine on the 19x10 wheel, so I have to assume its simply that they gave the Nismo a bit more rubber in the back for better traction (i.e., another "upgrade" feature for the Nismo).

The fronts are less of an issue, as its the rears doing all the grunt work.

What about running the 275's on the 10.5 wheel?

Yeah it's just meatier on the rear for the Nismo, since it does have a wider wheel and 18 more horses. ;)

nismo has so much more power than the base, the 10mm extra rubber is required.

So if I were to get some CE28 19X9.5 and 19X10.5, I should be able to use stock sport package tires?

Yeah, you'll have a little stretch and your speedo will read like 2-4% faster than you're actually going

Why would it do that? The diameter does not change. Is it the wider rim that would throw the speedometer off?

I didn't design the NISMO but I'm sure that the designers decided on a wider tire since it is supposed to be the higher performance version of the 370z

Regarding your CE28's, you are correct if the diameter doesn't change it has no affect on anything else.

The diameter of the tire that fits at 10.5in and and 9-9.5 in is slightly different.

Would anyone have any pictures of what this would look like by any chance? Especially the rear. I guess the front would look like a stock Nismo.

The OD (Overall Diameter) of your tire changes depending on the brand and aspect ratio.

A 275/35/19 tire does not have the same OD as a 285/35/19 tire does. The inside diameter is the same because it needs to fit a 19 inch wheel, but the OD changes.

Look here: Bridgestone*Potenza RE050A

The OD of the stock 275/35/19 Potenza RE050A is 26.5".

Now here: Yokohama*ADVAN Sport

The OD of the stock NISMO 285/35/19 Yokohama Advan Sports are 26.9".

That is why, generally, for every 20 mm of width that you go up in a tire, you need to go down a level in aspect ratio. For example, I should be able to run a 305/30/19 on my car and still be pretty close to the factory OD (depending on tire manufacturer).

Truthfully though, the speedo isn't acurate enough for any of that to matter as you're reasonably close to the same outside diameter.

It matters to the VDC. Put on tires that are too far off from the OEM OD and you will have the VDC kicking in all the time.

That's kind of what I mean. I don't think swapping the wheel & tire package from a Nismo to a base would really throw it out of wack for example. There's a bit of wiggle room in tire sizes but not much.

You are correct. Honestly, for how much the VDC kicks in with my NISMO with the wider wheels and tires, I don't think Nissan re-calibrated anything over the base car.

I am going to try a 305/30/19 rear when I need tires and see how the car likes it. It's much closer to the stock OD of 26.5".

Those are all the shots I have online with the 275s on the rear. I might have some more at home. If i find any others I'll post em up later tonight

Yeah if anything the tire looks slightly concave, but the rim isn't much more exposed than it is on a 285. You should be fine.
