Over-tightened is my guess.

snowhite370 03-09-2013 11:55 AM

Should i go back to the place that tightened them??

370Zsteve 03-09-2013 11:56 AM

You may want to try someone else...

They won't take responsibility for it as it happened out of their shop and didn't break while they were working on it. Even if it did happen while they were working on it, most shops just say the previous shops fault lol. You're S.O.L. on this one. Pay a shop to pull it off. get new lug nuts and carry on.

Looks like you have managed to still have the wrong type of lugs all this time

Dealers were putting on the 08 locks on 09's thinking they would work but because of the different design? They had a tendency of breaking because the bottom out before fully tightening, And as a result a tsb was released But at this point either remove them all and replace them with replacement lugs or the proper locks for the 09's and up.

Edit: on closer review You guys maybe right.

Looks like the proper locks

kenchan 03-09-2013 12:26 PM

appears to be the right lock, they probably just used an impact gun to tighten.

Kingbaby 03-09-2013 01:51 PM

bad juju...glad you caught that...

:iagree: to this though!!!

Right lock, impact wrench was used on it though...
The locking lug is BS for applying pressure

FairladyZ 03-09-2013 03:01 PM

Hoy crap

tu_clean 03-09-2013 08:06 PM

They must have used a tq wrench on it which is a major no no

Of course... you should ALWAYS use a torque wrench on your lugs. You're probably thinking of an impact wrench - which is a terrible thing to do.

Think I have the wrong locks too. Look how tiny the diameter of the no shoulder lock lug is inside the wheel bolt well....Guess I'll spray PB Blaster on all 4 of them and pray that I can get them off when I order the new ones.
Guess there is no point in going to the dealer with the TSB for a 4 year old car, they'll laugh me out of the parking lot.
Since I bought the car with 11.2K miles on it I'm sure these are the original tires that have never been changed so I'm sure those bitches are rusted on there really well.

Yeahhhhh... I think you have the wrong ones
I wouldn't spray anything on them unless you NEED to. (Torque specs are "dry" torque specs. Once there is a little oil and crap, you've changed that number)

And there's no harm in going to your local dealer... Hell, if they change it for free, you'll save $5

snowhite370 03-09-2013 09:58 PM

Thanks guys!!! Got it off finally....but now i need to buy a new lock nut before next winter :( oh well, at least i have my summer wheels as backup!

cossie1600 03-10-2013 12:02 AM

another wheel lock problem.

enkei2k 03-10-2013 01:24 AM

fck...my dealership used an impact my locks. I haven't even bothered to check on them to see if they're over tightened. I think I should, but I'm worried that might happen to me.

On the key, I did recall them having a sticker that says no impact wrench though. Too bad I found out after the fact. :shakes head:

red z 03-10-2013 03:26 AM

dealer over tightened them. had the same issue with mine

OK, today went to Nissan and the Service Manager said the issue wasn't a recall just a bulletin, his dealership didn't put them on, if they had he would replace them. So, he sold me a new set for employee cost, about 39.00 all told. They'll be in Wed. The lock nuts on now came off very easily, all 4 are clean and rust free. Did I mention my car must have been in a garage for the majority of it's 4 year old life. So, I retightened them and can't wait to put the right ones on there. The tires are original so no Gorilla using an uncalibrated Impact Wrench has put them on since dealer install, so all's GOOD!
