Aftermarket Lug Nuts on Stock Sport Wheels

Is it possible to put Rays lug nuts, or any other aftermarket lug, on sport wheels? I'm pretty sure I saw a nismo on craigslist that had red rays lug nuts so I was wondering if I could order a set for my Z. Thanks

If you want your wheels/studs to break, yes

Oh and don't try to get ANY aftermarket wheel locks, if you can't find my posts as to why you can't, I'll go back and look into it... All I know is I have tried every lock I can get my hands on, and NONE work

... Now I feel like a prick, (I knew I saw your name somewhere) sorry OP, just remembered which thread it was for...

I'm in the process of acquiring an extra set of OEM lugs to test powdercoating them for a good friend. When I have a finished result, I'll keep you posted, if then you want them PC'd I'm in SoCal too!

Lol no worries buddy! When i was browsing craigslist i SWORE i saw someone selling their nismo that said it had red rays lug nuts. I didn't check the links you posted but I will when I'm done typing this. Let me know how the PC process works for you. Any estimation on how much it would cost? I would worry about it peeling off whenever you go to take the wheel on/off. Hey, if it works then it would be cheaper going that route rather than buying expensive lugs. Thanks man keep me posted!

Just get the nipples of the factory painted to the color you want. That is what I did. Look likes aftermarket and no worries about chipping when you crank down on them since the socket makes no contact on the nipple.

Do you have pictures you could post up? I could probably just have my dad do that... Does it look like the whole lug is the color of the nipple or can you tell that it is grey underneath?
Feel free to post pics in my thread if you have any

Woot Woot! Thanks guys! Great help guys. Sorry I didn't search better for my answers. I'm thinking about having my paint guy do my strut bar in white, and my lugs in blue. I have a PW Z so I think it will flow nicely

NitrousZ34 02-04-2013 03:26 AM

I repped both of you guys. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

JapanJay has a blue car with an ORANGE strut bar with ORANGE wheels with a blue pin stripe and blue lugs, LOL

His album just popped up on the home page. Weird how that works lol :icon14:
How much do you think a strut bar would be to paint? Would you recommend getting it painted or powder coated?

It doesn't make a difference, it's not a high wear item too, so you'll be ok with paint

If you need anything, feel free to text me (310)eight nine three-4207

Does the texture look different between paint and PC? Say you and I each painted our bars, one with paint and the other got it PC, would you be able to tell the difference between the two? Would there be a price difference between the two? Sorry for all the questions, I just like fully understanding things :tiphat:
Thanks brotha I'll put your number in my phone right now. Whats your name so I can save it. PM me if you don't want to give it out.

Lol, my name and number is PLASTERED on this forum
Andrew

Honestly, you can't tell if something is PC'd vs painted

Price difference? Maybe? It's 95% the prep work you pay for. And powdercoating is baked on

Lol that could be a good and a bad thing :p
I'm Jared btw. I'm one of the youngsters on this forum ;)
I'll ask my painter maybe tomorrow if he could knock out my bar and lugs for a cool price.

Have at it, I've noticed that painters usually screw customers over more than powdercoaters... Now, wheel painters vs powdercoaters charge about the same
Just something I've noticed, it's weird

Would a normal body shop be able to knock out a PC job, or would i need to find a specific spot to get this done if that were to be the route I chose. I may be wrong, but I cant really see this being anymore than a $100 job.

No, paint and powdercoating are 2 totally different things.

And I'd be surprised if a normal paint place charges $100 to do the cross beam and the lugs, if they do, take it, if not, keep me posted!

Japanjay 02-04-2013 10:12 PM

The orange is powdercoated and the blue is hand painted on with a pinstripers brush. The same guy does both PC and stripping.

I talked to one guy that did my dads truck and he said about $100 for the bar, and $60 for the lugs. I just have to leave the car at home for a few days while everything is drying and such. I probably cant do it this week because I'm getting a custom built harness bar and my seats installed so that will take a better part of the week and then as soon as thats done, I'm going to my friends shop to redo the sound system and have a couple other goodies installed. ahhh this car takes all my money :ughdance:
lol

That blue really makes the orange pop. Do you remember how much it was to do your lugs? I have the 40th anniversary wheels so I wouldnt want to paint those.

HAHA! You said nipple...

Japanjay 02-05-2013 09:46 PM

$60 for the lugs sounds reasonable. I dont have a set price, everything to include the strut bar with the painted graphics came out to $650.

wettone10 07-12-2015 09:28 PM

who did you have do the PC and pinstripping? looks good. i want black wheels and red pin stripping
