New RE-11 A?

I overheard some folks last season at SCCA autocross talking about new tires coming out this year and as I watched hours and hours of the Barrett-Jackson auction I found out indeed, there will be new RE-11 A tires coming out in March. I called Bridgestone, but the lady on the phone didn't know anything about it. My question is, does anyone out there know any more details? Changes from current model? New sizes?
I was about to get a new set to put on my Nismo wheels 265/35 F, 305/30 R but may hold off for the new model.

gomer_110 01-21-2013 12:32 PM

Just came across this article comparing the A's to the current RE-11's. Assuming it's an honest comparison then the RE-11A's are the way to go.

The new Bridgestone Potenza RE-11A touches tarmac in North America for the first time EVER

There are new versions of several of the favorite ST tires planned for release in 2013. The new Dunlop Direzza ZII (Star Spec replacement) is finally getting 19" sizes and will be available in the next couple of months so that will probably be my next set of tires.

Now if only the 370Z was eligible for any of the ST classes. :shakes head:

TheGreatOne 01-21-2013 02:28 PM

Very interesting

I was hoping to grab a set of RE-11's in March, so this could be perfect timing

Also who knows, if places like Tire Rack might be getting a nice sized stock, deals may be had for the current RE-11 which wouldn't be bad

IMWEZL 01-21-2013 02:54 PM

Damn not sure if I can wait until march. Just saw that my front RE11 corded after 2.5 years on the road and a years worth of autox.

Wow, how many mines have you used your Z, lasting 2.5 years sounds epic lol

Osiris 01-21-2013 03:44 PM

Would like to know how these will compare to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports

The fronts probably have over 18K miles. The rear RE11s only lasted until 10-12K miles. In the 33K miles I have put on my Z I have gone thru the stock sport tires, replaced with RE11 in May 2010, and then replaced the rears with another set of RE11s in Nov 2011. Not too bad considering I ran a seasons worth of autox, maybe 12 events and some leisure travel.

different class, i think. S04's are direct comparison to PSS, imo.

Current events says!

#9925 370Z Classing Proposal
This subject is addressed by a Tech Bulletin elsewhere herein, under item #9283.

So you read #9283

#9283 370Z Classing Proposal
Per the STAC, this is addressed by two separate Tech Bulletins:
1) Add to STR: ‘09-’12 Nissan 370Z (except NISMO)
2) Clarifiy 14.4 by adding: “Standard equipment wheels exceeding these maximums are not permitted.”

So we find out that the 370Z is infact STR legal.

ah...but when you say different class....are you saying the RE11's are more performance oriented? And if so, the Michelin PSS's are not in the same performance class either? Sorry for my lack of tire mojo

takjak2 01-22-2013 02:16 PM

Small sizes only.

225/45R17
235/45R17
245/40R17
255/40R17
245/40R18

yah, just want to clarify that by "class" im referring to the tire performance classification, not where your car would be classified in an autox.

i dont think the PSS and RE11's are direct comparison as S04's are more for street/high performance like the PSS. PSS vs S04 would be more in the same performance class, i think.

Yeah I called tire rack today asking about projected availability and although he couldn't give me specifics he highly recommended going with the RE11s for my 19s.

You are right on. I do think the PSS is faster than the S04, but that's another story. I ran my car with the RE11, it was nearly as fast as myself running a 997 GT3 on PSS. Unless you are drinking the Nissan kool-aid too much, I highly doubt you think it is possible for a 370 to keep up with a GT3. It's the tires.....

RN SHARK 01-22-2013 08:31 PM

So you're saying the RE-11 A will only be in smaller sizes listed?

bmarcinczyk14 01-22-2013 10:40 PM

^^^^ I'm wondering the same as well. I was so excited when I hear about these because I was planning on buying some RE-11's around the time these will be out. I really hope they have them in bigger sizes than listed above.

clintfocus 01-22-2013 11:45 PM

im hoping for 285/35/18

At the moment, that is all that Bridgestone has 100% set their sites on for sizes. I work for Costco in the tire center and I called our Bridgestone rep as I am also highly anticipating these for my next set also. There will be more tire sizes released before the official drop of these tires around March. They did state though that the RE-11's will still be around for the sizes that the RE-11a's will not come in. But they did say a fairly limited amount of sizes are going to be chosen even in the long run. The RE-11a's will not fully replace the RE-11's. LETS ALL CROSS OUR FINGERS! :p

bmarcinczyk14 02-12-2013 08:05 AM

I'll be crossing my fingers for some 265/35/19 and 285/35/19's to come out.

I wish the same, also for RE11-S haha.

But hey, pss wasn't available in 265/35/19 and now it is, some wishes do come true!

996 gt3 I assume? Why did you switch from the P Corsas?

What's the RE-11-s? Or do you mean RE-11's? I know the RE-11 has both 265/35/19 and 285/35/19.

997 GT3. 997 GT3 can come with Michelin Cups or Corsas. It was switched out to the PSS as the car was no longer being used at the track or autox. The owner just took it out for an autox when he had the chance, I just happened to have a chance to turn a few laps in it. My RE11 definitely had more grip even though his GT3 was superior in every way. The power, suspension and chassis actually made up the difference in tires too.
