Hit a curb and noticed small crack on tire...

Hey guys... need your opinion on this one.

I was making a right turn and under estimated how close I was to the curb (trying to get around a car on the left... stupid, I know). I ran over the curb at about 20-25mph. The lip on the rim was not looking too hot, but I inspected the tire and didn't really notice anything (did not lose any tire pressure either).
After driving it for the last week, today I decided to take a closer look at the tire to see if it was bubbling or any other signs of damage. Well... I found a little crack on the side wall. I dread having to replace the tire (only 4k miles) , but want to be safe. Does this look to be of concern?

I am taking it to a tire shop this weekend, but thought to post and see if any tire experts can advise :) Thanks!! Pictures posted below:

I'm not tire expert but that would make me very concerned. Seems like that can only get worse.

+1 I wouldn't take a chance on that.

I would say it looks fine. I would have to see it in person, but it looks like just the surface rubber was kind of torn off. Kind of like if you scrape your arm on an edged surface, you don't really cut the skin, but tear it.

The tire shop, if reputable, will tell you what's up. If they're not reputable, they'll just replace the tire.

Either way, you're not losing that much there. It will definitely suck to replace the two rears though. If you're on the stock Potenzas, they wear too much in 4000 miles to warrant just the replacement of a single tire.

I know it sucks replacing a good (and expensive) tire but I wouldn't have anything on my Z that I didn't feel 100% confident doing 100 mph on. The tire might be fine... but it might not. I think getting it checked out by someone you trust is a good call.

I agree with what the guys above have said...definitely get it checked out at a reputable tire shop...that's what I meant to say in my initial response, but was too quick to reply without finishing my thought (wouldn't trust the tire till someone in the know has a look at it).

Thanks for all the replies guys! I will definitely take it to a good shop and see what they say.

Gotta love the Z community! :)

That tire is fine. Its thick rubber that takes abuse day in and day out. That small little crack is nothing. If anything they will try and push a new tire on you to buy if you go to a tire shop. My bigger concern would be the RIM and how it has curb rash all over it now.
