Helping a fella out is not ruining a day. That made the day for that guy and that is so FTW!!

Also, the headlight housing and door handles need to be blacked out.

I still think of Knight Rider....lol

Phimosis 06-30-2009 05:18 PM

When I was at the scene, the paramedics told the motorcyclist they were taking him to the trauma center where I work. I checked up on him this morning and unfortunately they had to amputate his leg at the knee.

I'm a motorcyclist as well as a medical doctor and when I see human tragedy like this it does ruin my day. That could have been me on the pavement and this guys life will forever be worse than before this day.

Caravanshaka 06-30-2009 09:54 PM

Dude, Antelope Valley Nissan? I was born in Palmdale and lived in Lancaster for years

Damn that leg got tore up. What about the rest of him, anything else major? Poor guy lost his leg, but at least he didn't lose his life after getting hit by an escalade.

initialgemini 06-30-2009 10:45 PM

The car looks sick! IMO it would look even better with some blacked out headlights. Looks good. Kinda reminds me of the A-Team Van color scheme.

eddieconfetti 06-30-2009 10:56 PM

how about a drive by. i wanna see the rims while spinning. that would be an interesting sight.

I can't share all of the info because of privacy laws. That's why I cropped the image so it doesnt have name, medical record number, age, etc. But yes, he's got some other things broken, including internal bleeding. None of the other things were as immediately life threatening and are not injuries he won't be able to recover from (except the leg).

Phimosis 07-01-2009 12:36 AM

Ok, I dropped off my car this morning to get rear camber/toe arms and 15 mm Ichiba type 1 spacers installed.

On reviewing the pics, I could have easily gone anther 5 mm on the spacers. I'm running 275/35/19 front, 305/30/19 rear.

The top of the tires are inboard of the fender lip. The tire at the pavement is outboard of the fender lip. Front is -1.9 degrees camber. Rear is -2.2 degrees camber.

Toe is .06 degree front, .10 degree rear. Steering is more lively than stock. Not twichty, but more work to keep going straight. Steering feel going from -1.0 camber (stock) to -1.9 degrees (lowered) made steering feel more crisp, with improved turn-in and cornering g-force capability. All positive attributes, no negative. Going to 275 width increased steering effort slightly and made it wander a little. Some negatives, but it totally banished understeer. It sticks like glue now and makes it feel like the tires are too big for the car. It just never spins or slides. It was worth the change.

Ride height is 26.5" pavement to fender lip front and rear. I believe stock was 27.7", so over all, lowered 1.2" on Megan Racing coil overs.

PS. All the comments about blackout on the headlights, door handles, etc: Yes. It's coming. Notice the front/rear badges and side markers are gone in these pictures. The badges and wheel caps are at the painters. When that is done, I'll start on the headlights and door handles.

Sorry in advance. I know nothing about video editing, so I didn't crop it. I didnt see your post until after it was dark. Will hit it in the light tomorrow. This does show that you can't really see black wheels in the dark, but with a bright accent color they still 'pop' in the dark.

My location is Bakersfield. Oildale is a neighborhood in town here. Maybe too far to go just to see some rims....

Zerafian 07-03-2009 11:28 PM

arent the 350 and 370 the same exact hub and bolt pattern?

Trips 07-04-2009 03:53 AM

Batman and Robin called and they want their rims back.

On another note, here's the x-rays of the guy's leg in the accident:

First one is femur. Second one is tibia/fibula.

That has got to be the best "Comminuted fracture" pic I have seen till date. Poor guy. I would love to see the AP view (if you feel like sharing ;)) . Thanks.

oh the rims, the black/orange theme and suspension setup -- all gets a two   from me! Great job.

In the second picture, f you look at the bones at the knee, they are in anterior veiw. The lower leg is in lateral view. For lack of a better term, it is the anterior view, it's just mangled. The lateral view wasn't very good because soft tissue was folded over more soft tissue and it hid the detail.

fly yellow 07-06-2009 05:19 PM

That looks so much better on the car then I actually thought it would, and +1 rep for helping out a fellow motorcyclist.

RCZ 07-08-2009 10:22 AM

I think you have convinced me about the spacers! Car looks great Phi.

joshj808 07-08-2009 12:00 PM

Those x-rays looks just slightly worse than mine did but i didnt have nearly that much tissue damage. Got hit at an angle by a woman in an SUV on her phone. She put me in a wall and my left leg got trapped between the bike and the wall. Only took 3 surgeries and 1 yr to walk slightly normal again. i got to keep the leg but the ortho surgeon said with was a 50/50 shot for a while there in the trama ward. Also, I had on full gear so nothing else was damaged except for a broken toe, ankle and hand. Helmet took the full brunt of the damage to my noggin. If i hadnt had it on along with my armored jacket i would have had the skin on my head, face, back and chest pealed off. Paints a nice picture! I had tons of good Samaritans like you stopped or stopping for me. People like you make me proud. I thank you for your efforts to helping that guy.

Oh, and the powder coating on the wheels looks friggin awesome.

Phimosis 07-08-2009 07:17 PM

Got the wheel caps, turn signals and badges back from the pinstriper!

Dude car looks great. I can see some copycats emerging soon. Plus rep for you. I admire people that have the type of courage to help others. If there were more people like you in this world, it would be a better place.

rufio11 07-14-2009 02:14 AM

Car looks good, if I had a Pearl White I would do the same, only make the orange BLUE. About the x-rays, did the tibia go all the way up to his butt? Cause there should only be one bone up that high in the Leg:icon14:

Now this is what tuning is all about - Good job man!

wstar 07-14-2009 04:40 PM

Nice looking ride man. A little too flashy for me personally, but it looks awesome :)

I wanted to pick your brain about the tire size setup though. How does the sidewall on the 275/35's look up front on the 9" wheels? And in general, do you think either end (the 275/35 on 9 up front, or the 305/30 on 10 in the rear) are feeling loose in a hard corner, like they would roll over too much?

I'm still debating tires and tire sizes with myself for my upcoming 18x9.5 + 18x10 setup, just looking for insight into how much oversize is doable without affecting the tightness of the car on the road, if you know what I mean. On the conservative end of things I'm looking at 265/35 and 285/35, but you're making me think I can be less conservative if those sizes are working well for you :)

I'll post a couple of pictures of the fronts only at the end of this post. A good deal of the ammount of rolling over the edge of a tire you get is determined by your camber. When the car was stock, I would roll over the edge of the 245 front and it would understeer under hard cornering, but the camber was -1.1 degrees. When I lowered it and put sway bars on, I had -2.2 camber and it didn't really roll over the edge, but it would still understeer. It was just too much weight for that compound of tire, car weight and tire width. Then, I went to the 275 width and kept the camber and toe (+.1 degree) the same, the understeer went away. The steering is still very crisp, but it does wander a bit more over pavement grooves. I don't feel any sidewall movement compared to the 245. It's just more grip. Also, the 275 width is still within the recommended range for a 9.0" wheel. The 2010 Camaro uses a 275 rear on a 9.0 inch wheel. The 305 rears are out of the recommended range (10.5" minimum recommneded), but still look fine... no bulging....See page 4 of this thread. I don't feel the rears wander at all either, but I'm running 2.2 camber there too. The car with 305 rear and 275 front is a beast compared to how it was directly before the tire change. I ran the same setup on a 2006 Corvette Z51 and had the same results. Rear tire spin was less, able to get on the throttle in corners earlier and understeer all but went away (hard street driving). That car has 9" front, 10" rear with 245 and 275 Goodyear F1's stock, which I changed out for RE050A's 275 front, 305 rear.

In looking at these pictures, remember that the tires have a recessed bead to save your wheels from curbs. The tread on the 275 is still not a wide as the wheel.

Oh, one last point. You can see how far out on the edge this tire has been scrubbed, and this was after a hard canyon drive yesterday. If you watch in the video below you can see mid corner steering adjustments, but it is because of slip angle, not double apexing. The video doesn't give you the sense of speed, but the slowest point in there is 3,000 rpm in 2nd gear which is 28 mph, despite numerous corners with 15mph recommended speed and with blasts up to 75 mph between corners.

Yeah thanks for the info. I'm definitely not going 265 on 9.5's up front then :)

JoeZ 05-11-2010 03:20 AM

I have been mulling this over for weeks now. I am doing it for sure. Not so much the orangey red but the powder coating. I love the emblems too. I cant think of a colour with PG that would look great except black. Thanks again

TLSpeed 02-19-2012 01:02 PM

Car looks FANTASTIC! Big congratulations! Im currently in the middle of blacking out my Z, wasnt really sure what to do about the center caps on the rays. Will any sort of body shop paint them for me?
