Snow tires on 18" OEM wheels

So, I just recently got my winter setup done. I bought a set of used OEM 18" wheels from another forum member, and he was very kind to give me the TPMS as well.

Although the wheels do clear the sports pkg break calipers, the dealer gave me a hard time about how my speedometer won't reflect me actual speed correctly, etc. Also, they told me they were not able to calibrate the TPMS (I believe to be OEM Nissan parts...perhaps) cuz their system couldn't recognize them. Have any body experienced any problem like what the dealer mentioning to me about the speedometer when downsizing the wheels for winter tires?

The dealer is full of s**t?

The outer diameter for tires on the 18" wheels provided properly selected is the same diameter as on the sport wheels (i.e. when you go down in wheel diameter you go up in tire profile), there should be no speedometer error.

The TPMS system used is also the same so there should be no issue reprogramming.

Sorry but your dealer has idiots in the service department - go somewhere else.

What size 18" tires do you have/are you planning on buying?

On a side note, my summer tires have worn down so far that the speedo is off. I've got a speedo on my GPS, so I can compare. When my in car speedo says 70mph, I'm only running between 68 and 69 mph. I've got 225 50/18 snow tires and they are dead on. Your dealer is an idiot for making uninformed blanket statements.

Actually, I agree with you 100%. I was arguing with the dealer and even trying to do the math for them. I believe my snow tire sizes are exactly the same as the stock one (without sports pkg), which compared to my 19" sports pkg wheels + tires, the overall rotation diameter should come out to be the same.

The TPMS are already attached to the wheels when I bought them, so I don't know if they're in fact the Nissan ones. But since the 18" wheels are OEM, I would assume the same for the TPMS.

Btw, this dealer is also the only certified GT-R dealer within 200 miles of where I live tho...

That's pretty scary. But just because they have one certified technician doesn't mean the rest of them are any good.
