nail in tire, need Help!

i got a screw in my tire earlier today but it didnt go in very deep, i have the 19in' run flats and the TPMS hasnt been triggered yet. am i ok to keep driving around on it? or do i need to get it plugged? replaced? what do i need to do?:ughdance:

You'll find a world of debate on whether it's ok or not. My understanding is it's more to do with the sidewall and abilities of the tire being compromised after having being driven when under-inflated (or flat). If the tire had air the whole time, and you noticed it, there is nothing inherent (my knowledge) of the tread being different, and patching should be acceptable.

Now finding a shop willing to do the work might be a different story..

^+1 on it depending on where it is on the tire.

Yes! Sorry.. excellent point, said nail in the meat of the tread, not the sidewall!

Plugs don't bother me. Ive got the hook ups on used tires and some times they have plugs. Ive ran track days an use as my DD. never had an issues. But like the others said.. No plugs in the sidewall and you should be good!

AHH I HATE NAILS. i already had to plug two of my tires because of them. But yea, as long as the nail isn't in the sidewall, you should plug it. My tpms didn't trigger the first couple days but it did eventually. Check out your local dealer. My local dealership did a really nice job plugging it and it costed me 25 bucks total. Other tire shops tried charging me 40 bucks -_-;;

got 2 plugs in my right rear and don't have any problems.

It seems to be doing okay. Haven't lost an air pressure. The nail was in the meat of the tread. Definitely know you can't plug a sidewall haha

I would get it inspected just to be certain, I would feel weird leaving the nail in the tire and driving around like that.

yah, i would definetely pull it out and plug it from the outside + plenty of rubber cement.

the problem with leaving a nail or screw in is they rust and let moisture in that eats away the metal belts on the tire. you need to fix nails and screws ASAP!

if the nail/screw did not go deep enough to pierce the steel belts in your tire, then you do not have to do anything, it will be just fine.

if it pierced the steel belts, then you just take it to whatever tire shop you trust with your wheels, and have them do the plug/patch from the inside and its good for life.

Oh ya... but if its in the sidewall, then order a new tire.

Get it inspected...

If it's like this, then you need to replace the tire.

If it's like this, you can patch it up.

I would never leave the nail in haha. I guess i forgot to mention the part that i pulled it out and it is still holding air. Must not have gone deep enough to puncture
