Z tire rotation

Tire rotation question: My dealer told me he would "rotate" my "Z touring/sport" OE tires, side to side, if I wanted. Anyone tried this at all? Seems like it might be good if there were any signs of "cupping".

It should make absolutely 0 difference lol. Your running same camber as both sides. Shouldn't wear out any different.

Aren't they directional tires. Should not do it if it is

Stock tires are not directional. Asymmetrical, but not directional.

Side to side rotation is of marginal value. Mostly beneficial if your alignment is not quite perfect or you are getting some wear oddities on one side.

yah, i dont rotate them at all.

i think it depends on your driving style. and how you use your Z.
some will say its a waste of time. when i had my c5 vette i never did.
and when i had the 350 i never did. but when i got my 370 i thought what the heck. and i have been happy with the results. it's my DD and i have rotated side to side every 5000 miles and the tires have worn pretty even.

i'm at 35,000 on my 09 sports package and may make it to 37,000
before buying a new set. but thats just me. but i will be glad to get rid
of the bridgestones!!!!!!!!!!!

I've swapped them left-right after track days. Some tracks wear one side more than the other and swapping can be helpful. For street driving, there is little value.

+1

It might delay the fact that you need tires for a little bit but shouldn't be considered as a permanent solution

I use to have the rear tires on my 350z taken off the wheels, rotated and remounted. That helped the life of the tires a lot! But if you don't have the hook ups that can get pricey.

i did it with my last set, but i'm mostly on the hwy and had more ware on the inside, seems to help a bit, but i'm still going to get an alignment just to make sure.

They will still charge you for the remounting of the tires. But they did not charge me for the rebalancing. They charged me $25 per side to dismount/remount my tires. They do offer free tire rotation but that doesn’t cover if you want the tires taken off the rims. Which is the only good way to rotate our tires. After the 2nd time I showed up just before closing with a pizza and a beer for the guys…. Now they do it for free!

99.9% of us run a staggered setup. Tire rotation isn't necessary and you don't really see any of the benefits from a non-staggered tire setup rotation. If you are having abnormal wear, it just means you should fix the problem at the source and do a proper alignment. Having to unmount/re-mount and risk damaging the wheel just seems a bit overkill. Sorry, but if you spend $100 to unmount, remount & balance, you pretty much just wasted $100 you could have spent on a new set of tires when the time comes to actually need replacing. Doing it this way is the worst way to rotate your tires.

Dealers ask this question because they programmed to read off a list of "recommended" services and want to make money off of you, plain and simple. In other words, they are pretty much idiots who got the job because they have some sort of sales background, not because they are familiar or have any workable knowledge around cars. I guarantee, most of those service reps, with a few exceptions, wouldn't know how to change the oil.

Couple of fair points on this subject if i might add. It is pointless to rotate side to side unless you are tracking and there are more/longer corners to the right or left as you see fit. Also, if you find a dealer that is GT-R certified you can have your tires balanced up to 100mph rather than 55 from most of your other tire stations. I only have 9000 on my car with the factory bridgestones. I saw the similar problems on a 350 as well. If you plan on triple didgits plan on payin 35 a tire for balancing at nissan.
