Has anyone seen the OE wheels chromed??

I just saw a set on ebay and though i'd never pay that much for them, they look REALLY good IMO. I'm a chrome guy though.

... wow bery brightly.

XwChriswX 08-16-2011 04:41 PM

Now they look even more like their lexus counterparts... :ugh2:

Cmike2780 08-16-2011 04:43 PM

maybe black chrome will work.....^^that makes them look cheap.

XwChriswX 08-16-2011 04:44 PM

If I had a choice between the chrome, and the way they come stock, I'd keep them stock. But if you like chrome, then I could see how this makes you :yum:

Chroming OEM wheels = really bad idea

I have seen too many cracked wheels to ever recommend anyone doing this..

azn370z 08-16-2011 04:50 PM

Doesn't chrome plating weaken the wheels? Some dealers were chrome plating the stock 350z wheels and it would break at the spokes. I also think Chrome looks kind of cheap, super black coat looks better.

:iagree:

Exactly..

TreeSemdyZee 08-16-2011 05:58 PM

Very, very bad idea on forged wheels.

But hey. They'll be able to find the wreck from a helicopter.

Not a fan of chrome at all. Especially on the OEM Rays.

EVERYONE does black wheels these days... I really don't get it, I mean... it looks like there aren't even any wheels on the car ... just a big hole with a tire there... sort of like that new Dyson fan lol.

No, I would never get them chromed... I thought it looked cool though on a certain color.

NFSZ86 08-16-2011 10:55 PM

I don't think any sport car should have chrome unless your in the DUB shows lol or have a 79 caprise on 26s chromes, thought at the auto show there was a Z with chromes but not these. I think Nissan has another set that are chrome but still wouldn't get them ugh bad idea=((

Red__Zed 08-16-2011 11:10 PM

:ugh2:

tjlazer 08-16-2011 11:57 PM

I think they are great! I had a set of the rays 19's done in the chrome exchange for my G35 and they were awesome. Im sure they added pounds, but so does eating fast food. lol

Super black coat looks like Chrome but darker. I see stock suvs and sedans with Chrome wheels and I think sbc color looks more classy. I agree that the color black hides the detail that should be seen. I'm not a big fan of Chrome wheels even though people might say my wheels look Chrome.

I never even saw that comment about black wheels :icon17:

I will say that after having black wheels for nearly 4 years now I will always have them, I can't go back now ;)

Now if you can get these in 26" you'll be set to donk!

JollyGoodChap 08-17-2011 02:04 PM

Doesn't nissan have a factory chrome option for the 370z? I swear I've seen it before.

How is chrome bad for oem wheels? isn't it just a staged dipping process? I thought powder coating was bad for forged wheels because the heat process can effect the integrity of the wheel after time.

somatic 08-17-2011 02:07 PM

they look so similar to the wheels that were on my lexus is

I don't think so.

ChrisSlicks 08-17-2011 02:42 PM

There are chemical ways to do fake chrome, here's one of them. I've also seen a simple home kit.

IMO chrome wheels only look nice on American sports cars (ie. vipers, vets, and stangs). I think tuner cars look better with the forged aluminum colour that the OEM wheels come with or a little darker (like the 40th's wheels). I would leave the wheels just the way they came...that's what I'm doing at least.

Lemers 08-17-2011 05:38 PM

Crome is evil I tell ya....e vil.

The accessory wheel that you're referring to is polished, not chromed.

SonnyC 08-17-2011 09:30 PM

The ones you see on eBay are PVD chrome, which is essentially a powder coat with clear coat over the top. The big player is US Wheel exchange. They also do black chrome. Very pricy and fragile. I have a set on my 350 but went with hyper black on my 370 done by Alloy Wheel Repair in Atlanta for half the price.

That's what happens when you chrome OEM wheels that were never intended to be chromed in the first place!

Well that sucks...
