The RE050A's are great performance tires. The only down side of them is the noise.

They came standard on my G35 Coupe 6MT. They lasted my quiet a while for the kind of abuse I put on them.

They are a pretty good over all tire. For performance, the extreme performance summer tires are better yet. That is what I have run for the last 4 years so these tires are a step down for me.

They suck. If you have used any other real performance tire they are not that hot.. they are noisy, grip sucks, treadwear is not good...
Just check out tire rack and see what thousands of people say about them, and see what Tire rack rates them on the track...

If you want the best, pay up for the Michelin Pilot sport PS2, also close to performance is the Goodyear Eagle GS1-D3. Even the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus which is an all season tire is awesome. I have used these on my G35s, and my 350Z, and my Kenny Brown Mustang. They far surpass the Bridgestones, in performance, especially in the wet, and they are a lot quiter. You wll pay about the same for the tires, with the exclusion of the PS2s which are a little more expensive. The pilot sport is close to the Goodyear performance but now they come with like a 45,000 mile warranty, so less tires to buy. and they are all season, so you can manage in light snow or ice. the other tires are summer only. If you want to save weight the PS2 is the lightest of all the tires, followed by the Goodyears. Goodyears do not make them in the 275 width anymore. I bought a 2008z last summer, dumped the stock wheels for the 19 inch NISMOs with 245/35/19 and 275/35/19s for the rear.. My car now accelerates faster, handles better, and is alot quiter inside noise wise.

Just my personal experience.

You can also look at the Yokahama Advan sport, however it has a low tread rating. so not sure how long they will last.

Although manufactures do test their vehicles, they also have contracts with certain tire companies, so that also determines what tire will be put on the car. Funny thing is look what cars come stock with Michelin PS2s

I have to disagree about the treadware, I got 40k out of my front tires and 35ish on the rear on my 350z.

There not the best tires, but they aren't cheap. I had a 91 MR2 and a 97 Mustang that also came with Potenzas. They cost more than Pirrellis to replace. I will definitely be going with better tires when it comes time to replace them.
