Honestly WHERE have you guys all been??? So far, I only know Steve (srbrubak), myself, Ryan (boris00), and nismodreamer from Iowa. The first 3 folks are all from the Cedar Rapids area ;)

You all need to hook up with us. We need more Z's in the area ;)

As for your original question, don't drive your Z in the winter :D Just get a 10 year old beater that you don't care about.

Well, I recently graduated from UI so there was no way I could afford a Z before getting my current job. Still don't have my Z but I'm looking to get one either soon or wait until the spring. I'm going tomorrow to test drive an 09 Z34 so wish me luck.

I live in IC but work in Cedar Rapids. I've seen several 350's and one or two 370z's around the area, now I wonder if maybe some of them go here...

LOL.... the 3 folks (including myself) I mentioned above are all from CR. We all work here too. Guess where? lol....

And the 370's you saw here in town were undoubtedly myself, Steve, or Ryan.

Does one of you work at Schneider with a black manual touring Z34? If so, small world...

FromG2Z 07-22-2011 10:14 PM

^ Actually no... that black Z34 is another person here in town who I haven't met yet. There's also a red Z34 vert who I haven't met yet either, driven by an older guy.

Dammit, I drove 2 hours to des moines to look at a z and it turns out the salesman had no clue about 370Z's and the car didn't have the sport package like he said. It really pisses me off when these salesman have no clue what product they're even selling. Am I right?

I should have told you to go to Davenport instead... Lujack rocks. Ryan and I bought ours there. Whatever you do, avoid Jim Miller like the plague (diff't owner now tho, still $h!tty)

I live in Cedar Rapids and I have a very simple winter plan. I park my "Z" in the garage during the winter. If the roads are clear, I will get it out and drive it a bit. But with snow and ice and a ton of salt on the roads, my "Z" stays in the garage.

Thanks for the advice. Lujack doesn't seem to have many used z's though, that's why I haven't visited yet. Maybe next season...

I've got dedicated snow tires and rims and plan to drive the car daily during the winter. The Z has nearly 50/50 weight distribution, limited slip differential and a manual transmission. I suspect it will handle quite well in winter.
I've driven rear wheel drive vehicles for years with snow tires and have had no problems whatsoever in snow or ice. My wife got stuck once two years ago on glaze ice in a parking lot in her G37. Otherwise, rear wheel drive vehicles equipped with snow tires preform every bit as well as a front wheel drive vehicle.
Now, if the snow gets over five or six inches deep I could have a problem. Funny, the highway patrol in Iowa drives rear wheel drive cruisers during the winter......!

So long my Z. I ended up trading my Z for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Summit edition. THis thing is sharp! And more appropriate for Iowa I guess.
I ended up getting 40,500 for my Z which I though would be impossible but since I was buying a sticker 49k Jeep and I have learned to negociate with a bunch of purchases in the last years, we got it done. Now I am out of inequity.

Will definitely miss my Z but when I buy something like that again will probably go to the GT-R!

Thanks to everyone who was helpful here!
