Pilot Super Sports

I am about to replace my stock tires in the next couple weeks and I think I wana try out the Pilot Super Sports. I have heard nothing but good things about this tire from many forum members here as well as other forums (g37, m3, etc). Since they dont come in the stock nismo sizes what would you guys recommend 245/40/19 and 275/35/19 or 255/35/19 and 295/30/19? Thanks in advance!

spearfish25 06-08-2011 07:44 PM

I'd mix your choices together. 255/35/19 Front and 275/35/19 Rear.

Why downgrade rears? Stock Nismo rear is 285 35 19!

That's hardly a "downgrade."

tjlazer 06-08-2011 08:50 PM

Narrower tires on the rear from stock is not a good thing. Lol

Yokohama 285 35 18's from a Nismo

Ty Weezy 06-09-2011 09:00 AM

yea i wish the pilot super sports came in 285/35/19 but they dont. I would rather go with 295s in the rear rather than 275s but not sure how much of a difference the 35 30 thickness would look compared to my stock 40 35 setup. I am at stock ride height and dont plan on dropping my car anytime soon.

m4a1mustang 06-09-2011 09:09 AM

295/30 would be nearly a full inch shorter than the stock 285/35 setup. The 275/35 is much closer, only around .4" shorter. I'm with spearfish... 255/275 would be good.

I agree. Might even help dial out a bit of the understeer.

tjlazer 06-09-2011 12:29 PM

I would get a different tire to atleast get a 285 in the rear! No downgrading for me thats for sure. I'll probably be going to a 305 out back when its time.

nice. you even run 18's :icon17:

i think the new pilots in 275 will stick better than the advans in 285. oem tires are usually chosen for durability when under-inflated. even the base RE050A and RE050 PolePositions perform completely differently even though they appear to be the same tire.

also 285/35/19 on base is imo too short and will emphasize wheel gap in the rear especially when running wider wheels. :ugh2:

anyway choose the tires you like. id go with stock base size (245/50/19 & 275/35/19) even if the wheels are 19x9 19x10.5.
big sticky tires will actually slow the car down when it reaches a certain point.

tjlazer 06-09-2011 04:41 PM

I made a typo, I run 19's. Well a 275 will be way too narrow on a 10.5 wheel. It will look stretched. Just MHO.

I had some 275/35/18's on my 300ZX and just went to a 285/30/18 and it fits perfect now. Side wall looks square, where it looked slightly stretched before. Also allowed my speedo to be back on track, but increased my wheel gap. Oh well.

Ty Weezy 06-13-2011 08:27 AM

Thanks for the input guys. I might just go with the RE-11s in the stock nismo sizes but if I dont, I'm gona go with the 255/275 super sport setup.

Ty Weezy 06-13-2011 10:22 AM

By the way - anyone have the super sports long enough to comment on tread life? I got about 20k out of my advan sport rears and I dont think I will get any more from the RE-11s. If the super sports will last longer that will probably be my main decision factor.

I have about 2,000 miles on mine and they basically have all of their tread.

Yeah, I definitely will. I do have to admit, it's going to be tough to go easy on the tires during the break in period.

I would like to see a picture to see how they look on your wheels. I am looking for tires now. The stretched look is not for me.

Not bad. They seem quieter than RE050A. I am old though and have that age realted thing about not being able to hear high pitch sound. I think it was too much loud Zeppelin, Floyd, Tull, Yes and Sabbath in my teens/twenties/thirties/forties/now.

No such thing as too much of that music.

Pics on the wheels? Wondering how much the bulge is.

Ty Weezy 06-22-2011 11:20 AM

After a long debate I just ordered the RE11s. 255/35/19 and 285/35/19. Installing this friday can't wait! Might try the super sports for my next set

kenchan 06-22-2011 11:38 AM

ty- make sure to take the tires to a reputable shop that can mount without scratching your wheels. :)
