I think it mostly boils down to culture preservation. Even the average cultural mode here is a bit on the ricey / all-about-image side for my taste, but at least we still have some level of performance and functionality focus on this board, and it's not a bad balance all things considered, and people are getting what they want out of it.

Where you're going with the 370Z, in a lot of peoples' opinion, just has nothing to do with the spirit of a sportscar at all, and a lot of people don't want this board to completely devolve into being mostly trafficked by the types of threads and posts people in your subculture would be creating. From their point of view, it would be a very crappy signal:noise ratio and they'd just have to move out to another message board to get back to what they were talking about before.

For example, here in the Wheels & Tires section, it's nice to be able to find data on things like wheel weights, clearances with various stock/aftermarket BBKs, reports of damage/cracking (under track conditions? street?), etc. It gets harder to find the data most of us care about when the info is cross-contaminated and every search for "camber" or "offset" brings up VIP-style threads instead of track/street-performance threads related to camber+offset values. Or we're looking for reports of which wheels cracked/broke at the track and under what conditions, and instead our search pulls up VIPidiots who broke their rear axles when they went over a parking lot speedbump.

We'd rather preserve the cultural bias we have here now by shunning your take on things before it grows out of hand. I'd recommend you just start a new forum (or get a new sub-forum started here that the rest of us can ignore?), or use some existing Slammed/VIP-style forum and get a 370Z subforum added.

I'll never understand why the guys on this forum can't let threads like this just be.

I don't get the hellaflush craze at all, but it is big, and people are going to do it regardless. Even the subaru forums have a thread devoted to slammed subie's, stickied right next to the one for lifted subarus :rofl2:.

It's not ever like this guy is running some ridiculous setup either, or distracting from the "real" technical discussion on here...like whether to go with +12 or +22 offsets on your TE's

How else will you get ready for race wars? You gotta overnight parts from Japan.

He's free to post a thread about this style, and members are just as free to voice their opinion on the style. What's to understand?

I agree that it's that guy's money, it's his style, that's all that matters. But hatas gonna hate.

It's just poor form. Behavior like this ruins forums. I think TE's and CE's are played out, but you won't see posting that up in every thread about them.

I agree that there's a lot of groupthink and hate when it comes to edgier styles. I've always tried to encourage folks to try something unique and new and damn the haters.

But people are going to post their opinion.

I know of several behaviors that make forums less pleasant, but they come and they go, and it seems that we each have our own set of standards of what constitutes poor form.

I'm not totally disagreeing with you. If you think it is egregious enough, http://www.the370z.com/images/buttons/report.gif

I like cars that are LOW and WIDE
please show pics after you make them fit

Every car, especially imported Japanese sports cars, will have someone trying to 'stance out' (am I using the terminology correctly?) their ride. I don't care for it, personally, but if that floats your boat, fine, I just make snide comments here and there as a joke.

What I don't want is a whole slew of threads devoted to slammed setups, so actually it was a kind of thoughtful idea to have one central thread, and let all of the VIPers or whatever-you-guys-call-yourselves (I have no idea!) post up in it.

Now then...I wanna go see those lifted Subies...:rofl2:Zed send me a link pls! haha

Word. Keep that crap in a central thread. Those of us not into it can avoid it, and we won't deal with questions about how aggressive people can go every other day. Keeps the forum more helpful for everyone.
