Tire Pressure which one...

Which pressure ratings do you go by? What's written on the side of the tire or what's written on the vehile's door jam? Do you inflate to max pressure like you do on bikes or trailers if not why not? Max psi rate on my truck tires are 65psi. I infate to 50. Anything lower and tire looks flat. Best determined for grip and efficiency. When going on a long highway trip I inflate to max psi or when carrying a load. Should tires be inflated to max cold psi?

35psi cold if you're using stock setup. it's on the driver side door jam.

i like a firmer ride so use 37psi usually.

btw, that's measured when the tires are cold in the morning or after being in my garage over 5hrs.

The number on the door jam is what you want to go with as the cold pressure (that is 35 psi as already mentioned).

From experimentation at auto-x I've found the ideal hot pressure is around 38 psi front, 35 rear. The rears don't heat up as much as the fronts do, even when you try.

This is also useful for explaining how pressure requirements and load ratings change with vehicle speed as well.

We have our crappy weight distribution to thank for that.

Read it, and it says you need more psi the faster you go. So using the max psi# on the side of the tire is ok. I wondered why the recomendations on cars is always lower than max psi on the sidewall. On bikes they tell you to inflate to max psi on the sidewall.

Got it.

sounds like the prius forum, those guys always try to inflate tires to 55psi to get the maximum gas mileage

I don't think so. People have genuine questions. This is a forum..... sometimes people are looking for answers.

:iagree:
Sometimes guys also switch tires out and wonder whats the normal tire pressure?
This isn't like asking whats the best oil? Lol

spearfish25 04-11-2011 09:36 PM

Please don't inflate your tires to 60psi though.
