Winter Rims and Tires
 

Has anyone found a set of rims and winter tires that will fit the 370z with sport package? Tirerack hasn't had one to measure, so they aren't much help just yet. My ideal package would be a set of 17" or 18" grey or black rims with Blizzaks, but no one knows what exactly will fit over the sport brakes. Just by looking, my guess is that 17"s are out completely.

Anyone have the info?

I think that 18" wheels won't clear the Sport's huge brake calipers. I really don't want to get 19" wheels for winter for two reasons: the higher cost of 19" wheels and tires ($300+ per tire,) and the extremely low availability of low profile/big size winter tires.

Some 18"s will clear, it will depend on the wheel design. Mostly it's a matter of wheel flaring out enough to get over the front side of the caliper.

If I can find 18"s that work, that would significantly drop the cost and also open up more options for tires. 19"s are pretty limiting and it looks like I'd have to go for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires (all weather) for $334 each.

To be honest I'm still worried about getting the engine through the first summer.

Off topic, but people are driving 370Zs in the Florida and Arizona currently and I haven't heard specific issues in those temperatures. In fact, I recall a Florida guy getting similar engine temps while driving in 75-80 degree weather. I wouldn't worry too much about the overheating possibility unless you're driving very hard.

I really don't think there is any potential for overheating in any kind of spirited highway driving.

The overheating is most likely to occur when the speeds are lower and you're revving the crap out of it, i.e. RPM's constantly above 5K RPM with a lot of the time spent between 2nd and 3rd gear. At higher speeds the extra airflow seems to help keep things cool.

I'll probably be dropping out the coolant and going with distilled water with Water Wetter.
