tread depth question!
 

I'm shopping around for new tires, and I took the penny to my current ones just to take a look. (I currently have the stock 19" rims with stock Bridgestone tires with no suspension mods. The tires are nitrogen filled at 36 psi all the way around.)

On the front AND the rear, I have less than 2/32nds of tread left in the grooves furthest away from the center of the car.

All the other grooves (further in towards the center of the car) measure at least 4/32nds of tread left. My question: Is there a problem somewhere with my alignment and/or tire pressure? Is this normal?

mine are doing the same thing, Doesnt the door call for 32 psi? i could be wrong.. but over infation would cause the middle of the tire to wear, under infation would cause the outer edges to wear

Door calls for 35 psi all the way around.

Where are you measuring? If you go too far to the outside you end up measuring in the area where the tread blocks taper into the shoulder of the tire, which would read lower than the rest of the tread. If you can, post some pics.

Anyways, when you get the new tires have the cars alignment checked.

An excellent point, but the tread in question is about 3 inches "in" from the sidewall. I wouldn't think the taper would be so severe that far away from the sidewall.

I'm starting to wonder if I can get another few months out of these tires since all the other measurements still show 4/32nds.

i dont recommend it, but you can wear them down to the wear bars if you aren't driving in rain and dont have pot holes or rough roads. especially with nitrogen your tires will remain pretty stable through the cold and running temps.

i usually replace tires about 1mm from the wear bars... by that time most perf tires are LOUD. :icon14:
