Offsets
 

I am looking at getting some new rims, and i dont understand what offsets are and what they do? Do they hurt your car in the long run. The guy selling me rims said i could go with Frong 20x9.5 +25 abd Rear 2x 20x10.5 +22
Can somebody explain the +25 and +22.

Offset is the location of the face of the wheel, compared to the center of the wheel.

So lets take a 10" wide wheel for example. It will actually measure out to be 11" wide (all wheels are 1" wider than the advertised size due to the barrel). That means the center of the wheel is at 5.5". If the wheel has a +20mm offset, that means the face of the wheel is 20mm out from the center of the wheel. If it was a -20mm offset, this would mean the face of the wheel is 20mm in from the center of the wheel.

As long as your offsets are within an appropriate range for your car you should not be negatively affected by them. You will be more affected by the tire size. Wider they are the more grip you have but the worse your fuel economy.
