TPMS Reset Tool - 370z: Does it work?

there have been a few threads on this already, but they got kind of off topic etc. Anyways. i have purchased the ATEQ TPMS Reset tool from Tire rack: http://www.tirerack.com/accessories/detail.jsp?ID=163 I know there were issues with it not working with our 370's but i was assured it works. I decided to take the plunge. Anyways. it should be here today or tomorrow. I will test it and post the results here.

Cool thanks for taking one for the team.

That actually looks really neat, hopefully it is simply a plug and play deal without any hitchs. This would make it much easier for those who switch out their wheels for the track or winter!

yep, thats the idea. i'm going to follow the instructions. I believe there is some sort of software that comes with it for the computer. You probably say what type of car you have etc and then you go sync each sensor. its supposedly easy.

The sensors in my rear wheels are not synced right now b/c the stupid insurance shop that replaced my wheels after they were stolen never synced them (even though i told them to... then when i realized they weren't, they said they'd need my car for the whole day to sync them... so i have had light on for the past 2.5 months) but that's another story.) so i'm gonna test it with just syncing those first. Then i'm gonna install my new wheels with TPMS sensors (thanks to Jamaica2g for the great deal on the sensors, i believe he has a second set for sale still). The sensors came from a nismo 370z. i'll test both and post the results :)

I'm definitely in to get one if it works. :tiphat:

If you have the TSB for the 350Z TPMS Reset it should be the same instructions.

ClemsonWill 08-20-2010 01:43 PM

I'm so eager to find out if this works for the 2010. Please post up if you know.

Jeffblue 08-20-2010 01:57 PM

ok so i'll post up my brief findings.

you take it out, unbox it, install the software. you choose your car. Initially, off the CD it only goes up to the 2008 350z, but then it prompts you to update it. This update includes the 2010 370z (and i assume this means the 2009 as well, but specifically only the 2010 MY is listed).

you plug in the tool to the USB port and after the simple instructions, it has you go out to your car to plug it into the OBDII port and then a green light flashes. you press either the winter or summer button, and the light turns solid green. then you go back to the computer and plug it back into the USB port and it displays each sensors code in its position in the car (front left, front right etc).

IMPORTANT: this only will download codes the sensors if they are already synced to your car. If you are installing NEW sensors or sensors that have not ever been on your car before (ie if you bought someone else's wheels with TPMS) they will NOT be detected and this tool is NOT capable of activating them unless you do the following:

You would need to have the specific code from each sensor in each wheel and type it into the computer program and the follow the steps to sync them to the car. Or you can go to the dealer and have them sync the tires for you and then follow the regular steps for downloading the codes from the already synced sensors.

This tool is really useful for switching sets of wheels with TPMS. if you want to sync a NEW set of sensors, make sure you know the codes on the sensors before having the tires mounted, or else you're gonna have to either pay the dealer to sync it, or pay someone to dismount the tire or deflate it and mess around with it enough to be able to read the code off the sensor.

IN SHORT: this works, but make sure you sensors are already synced, or that you know the codes on EACH sensor in the wheels you want to add.

the rear wheels on my sport package rays are NOT synced, and therefore i need to go to the dealer and have them sync my wheels anyway.

Thanks Jeff. I'm ordering my Ateq with a new set of tires and another set of TPMS in just a few days.

Jeffblue 08-20-2010 02:34 PM

no prob! make sure you get those codes and know which wheel has which sensor! :)

ClemsonWill 08-20-2010 02:37 PM

I definitely will. Thanks again!

Jeffblue 08-20-2010 02:39 PM

no prob, glad i could help. the software is really easy to use. let me know how it works for you.

Just curious... Are you sure that the dealerships can sync the TMPS' if we do not have the code?? One dealership just told me they do not know how....

Just so that I understand the bold section, the dealer told you that they do not have the means to get the codes from the sensors?

I was planning on purchasing a new set of TPMS sensors for use w/ a set of Sport wheels and all season tires. Interesting dilemma we have here........

Endgame 08-23-2010 01:52 PM

That's what they told me.... They said they had just tried to remove indicator light from a Titan that had a wheel/tire swap and could not get it to stay off. I sent them another question to clarify this and am awaiting their response.

Huh? A "dealership" told you that? Me thinks you should try another dealership. I had no trouble inializing mine when I went back to the dealership where I bought my car. (We did it in 5 minutes in the shop over the lunch hour.)

Endgame 08-23-2010 01:59 PM

That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I will wait for their response and go to another if I do not like what they say....

Jeffblue 08-23-2010 02:12 PM

dealerships can initialize your TPMS. i've had it done on my altima with Brand new sensors.

baller07nd 09-28-2010 11:57 AM

Ball park how much is the dealership charging to get the sensors sync'd with the car? I'm in Germany and want to have an idea before dropping by one of the local dealers (Euro conversion is the worst).

Jeffblue 09-28-2010 12:07 PM

they are supposed to charge $50 around here.

pahrump.grump 03-24-2011 04:50 PM

tpms 370 z touring

what type of unit did you try. I tried a ateq vt30 and ateq tpms quick set has not worked I took it to the dealer still won"t work. I put 20 " wheels having no luck. I can shut the light off until I drive steady for 10 miles then it blinks and comes on help. thanks grumpy:ughdance::ughdance::ughdance::ughdance:

RCZ 03-24-2011 05:07 PM

Every dealer or tire place I've called wants at least 100 dollars to sync new tpms to the car. It sucks...also sucks that I already mounted my tires...

pahrump.grump 03-24-2011 07:07 PM

I have used the vt30 to get the #s and tpms quickset it did not work I am running 20" took it to dealer today they turned out light went ten miles back on

6MT 03-24-2011 07:14 PM

I got mine sync'ed for no charge at the dealership where I bought my car. When I put the new 20" Volks on (with new sensors, of course), they did it for me for free. It took all of 5 minutes on my lunch hour. (It pays not to burn bridges.)
