BlackTop Wheel locks - Unconventional Wheel locks

Has anyone ever heard of these are used them. I am thinking of getting them and they look, well.... different. They look more secure than any other conventional wheel lock

I use those on my Audi TT. They are designed to fit over a properly torqued lug so they are safer then replacing a lug with a locking lug that can't be torqued down properly! I believe they only work on the small Euro 17-19mm lugs though. Not our OE lugs!! BTW: They have been out for over ten years!! I've had my set for about 6 years.

that sucks, you are 100% sure they wont fit our OE lugs? is there a certain type of lug that i could use on an aftermarket wheel, that would fit our cars and these locks? I believe we need a 1.25 thread pitch for our lugs.

as far as your experience, in physically dealing with them, do you think they are more secure than a regular locking lug nut?

Do they make bolts/nuts that are the size head that fit on an audi/volkswagon that would fit on our japanese cars?

They may fit over non oe lug bolts. Just not sure. I've only seen them on Euro vehicles.

Wow, I had a set of those way back on my VW. They worked good for me.

Looks like if you have a small enough flat head screwdriver you could unscrew them?

Jeffblue 07-03-2010 10:37 AM

im in contact a vendor of theirs and he is trying to find a solution for us.

Does anyone know of any wheel locks that rotate on ball bearings or something? The way someone removes a wheel lock is to hammer a socket over it, but if there's no resistance from the lock itself, unless say a key is inserted would null this tactic.

Trust me, they're not coming off withouth the key unles someone wants to damage the wheel.

these require a 17mm or 19mm lug nut. does anyone know if they make 17mm or 19mm lug nuts that fit on our studs (which are 12x1.25mm)

There are no aftermarket lugs currently available that work with our stock Rays. We use that cone & washer style lug.

Jeffblue 07-07-2010 06:41 PM

for aftermarket application, i believe the black tops will fit on these lugs: which will fit on our cars with aftermarket wheels that use acorn style lug nuts.
