DO NOT USE any type of abrasive polish or cleaner on the wheel. The top metallic layer is EXTREMELY thin and extremely easy to polish off (ask me how I know).

If you can convince Nissan to repaint your wheels that's probably your best bet. A professional aftermarket powdercoat would almost certainly be more uniform and more durable than the factory wheel finish.

And I did both. Convince Nissan and had a professional re-coating

Yeah I found a mobile wheel repair that is going to come out to my house and actually do the work. I sent them pictures and they identified the problem right away. They are charging $125 per wheel....so I scheduled an oppointment....gosh I love this car but it's starting to be a pain.....and I've only had it for a year...

mannyz 07-22-2010 05:26 PM

Well I have the car for 1 year, and this is the only problem, I dont consider the car been a pain already o_O

One of the things is never let your brake dust bake on the rims and wash your rims (soap & water) before you wash the rest of the car.

Last but not least, bring the issue to your service manager. If you don't get a response them got to FB.

Go to FaceBook under Nissan North America, do a friend request and go to the Discussion Thread and open a Topic, your will get a message real fast, believe me.

Also PM me, I have some email addresses that will get you some answers and results if you cannot get your issue resolve at the lower level.

I might need your help.. you mentioned addresses to get the issue resolved..,I used ordinary car soap on mine and the outer coating is pealing off revealing a bright shine underneath.. I am scheduled to see the dealer tomorrow but based on what I am reading this is not good!!

mannyz 05-23-2011 03:07 PM

I was able to fixed going to BBB and filled a complaint. The dealer sent my rims to be coated again.

toxik 05-23-2011 03:40 PM

I would've just powdercoated them black at that point... black and yellow looks good anyways...

mannyz 05-23-2011 04:13 PM

Well they already did and they powdercoated on a flat gay as grey. Now I have to powdercoat them again. to either black or the same color as the caliper.

I went to the dealer today...he looked at my wheels and checked all of them.. only one was peeling ..which I think was a sign I did not use abrasive cleaners,.,.and he agreed to replace them..:)

You are lucky and I am glad you are cause Nissan will have deny the replacement.

Here are the spots on my rims. After about 2 months of going back and forth, Nissan finally agreed to replace them. This one looked pretty bad...

That's what I am talking about. Mine weren't thst bad but that's exactly I started to see on my rims. That's a clean picture. Glad they will replaced them. And glad I'm not the ony one that started the thread to help the cause.

first pict almost looks like wrong type of cleaner used and dried in the sun.

all i use is car shampoo if washing, or if just removing brake dust, i spray QD into my soft MF towel and gently wipe off the dust. i dont use any harsh chemicals.

most detailer places use fancy detergents and cleaners that do more harm than good, imho.

kimkad 06-02-2013 06:24 PM

I have the same problem with my back passenger side rim. I have had my car for two years, I've noticed it a month into owning the car. I Told the dealer where I bought the car from about it , he said there was nothing they can do about it. So now i'm driving around with black spots on my rim.

Thats what Nissan immediately said on my wheels, but in my case I use Meguiars cleaners and been using it on all my case for years with no problem. But because that created a doubt on me anyways, I went to two different dealersships and snoop around and found a few 370 with the same problem on the inside edges of the wheel. Took pictures, sent it to Nissan and they clear their hands by sending me a letter saying "we are professionals, we know what you damage your wheels, case close" Thats when the BBB took over and I requested a powder coating professional to give me his opinion and thats when Nissan then responded to BBB "ok we are going to powder coated for free"

But like I said they powder coated with a weird dull grey.

mannyz 06-02-2013 08:50 PM

But here is my final product after I found a very nice proffesional powder coating guy here in Orlando.

Manny, I think your car looks better with the rims powder coated. It really stands out on the yellow. I need to do something with mine.

Thank you, well the latest pictures was a second powder coating I personally paid since I didn't like the dull grey that nissan painted them. After I read my thread it sounds confusing so let me rephrase.

Nissan powder coated the wheels with a dull grey for free.
I didn't like it an a year later I powder coat them again with that Dark Metallic color which I like now. I only paid $500.

kimkad 06-19-2013 07:56 PM

It all paid off , the car looks amazing manny.
