285 rear tires on SP wheels?
 
I would like to get wider tires in the back. Anybody try the NISMO's
Yokohama ADVAN Sport P285/35R19 rear tires on a Sport Package's 19"
rear wheels?

search is your friend, there are a million threads on this topic...

sport wheels will fit up to 305s though, You can do 285 in the rear without changing the front tires though...

I did several searches on the internet and forum before making the post,
didn't come up with that info. Could you post the thread where you found it?

If you change only the rear, your car will understeer like a mofo

i doubt the 285s will create much understeer...

its the OEM size of the nismo 370z.. do they understeer like a mofo ?


Your best bet would to just browse throught this section.. theres more than 1 of these questions on the front page right now...

I get what you're saying now. Greater than 285, it seems a lot of people are concerned about needing
to add spacers to make up the gap between the tire and the wheel well (because of varying wheel wall heights with
the changes). Also your concerned about the understeer once you change the Sport Package setup ("245/40R19 &
275/35R19") to a different ratio such as "245/40R19 & 285/35R19"

The size of the tire really doesn't change the fact that the wheels are tucked in, and could defiantly use wheel spacers to make the wheels sit flush... The wider the tire you go with, the more of the wheel well it will take up, which would mean you could possibly use slightly less aggressive spacer to allow the wheels to be flush with the fender. 305's in the rear with a 25mm Spacer has already been done and didn't cause any issues.

Regardless of the tire size I would recommend 25mm Rear Spacers and 20mm front spacers for a more aggressive look or at the minimum 20mm rear and 15mm front for the 370 to have a nice aggressive stance. The wheels just don't look as good without the spacers...

But thats not really what your thread was about...

IMO you can go with 285's in the rear and have zero concern about too much under steer added while keeping your factory 245's up front... I am pretty sure the Nismo comes with 245s in the front and 285's in the rear... The Sport Package Z comes with 275's.... So my point being, the " superior " handling Nismo 370 comes with 285's right out of the gate and I have never heard a single nismo owner complain of too much understeer...

So again, IMO, I say get the 285's along with 25mm rear spacers and 20mm front spacers and you will give your car a much more aggressive look than factory...

Thanks for the info, I'm mainly going for a wider tire in the back for
increased traction. I know 10mm won't make much of a difference, but
the slightly wider look in the back won't hurt either. Besides, I've heard
a lot of positive about the Bridgestone Potenza R-11s

Nismo put the wider tires to justify the bigger wheels and the extra $5000 premium. It gives you better tire compound and better traction off the line, that's pretty much it unless they tune the suspension differently. It's simple physics that your car will understeer more if you put wider tires in the rear than the front. Can you feel it? It all depends on how you drive or if you know how to drive. I have 265F and 285R RE11, the car still plows like a mofo when I race.

Oh yeah, changing to RE11 in the back and stockers in the front, I can tell you the car will definitely understeer a lot.

Do you have any pictures of running with 245/285 with the 20/25mm spacers? I wasn't really thinking about putting on spacers when I get my new tires, but now you got me thinking!

Are there any disadvantages to using spacers?

So you're basically saying that the NISMO does understeer a lot because
they have the 245s up front and 285s in the back. What do you
recommend?

u may need up the front tires sizes as well. the most proven track setup is amuse 350z superlegga. it runs a square 275 / 275 setup. It takes almost 500hp to fully utilize 275 width tires. However, That is if u are a professional driver. However, for us amatuers, 245 to 265 front is ok, 285- 305 in the back is ok as well!
