Reduced Tire Noise 25% by accident

Everyone here knows how noisey these cars are---I changed all of the following at the same time: 15mm spacers front, 20mm spacers rear, Eibach
springs, Adjustible upper front control arms, rear adjustable camber arms. I really, really like how the car looks and handles/ much better than stock but the neatest thing about all of this is my car is at least 25% or really closer to 35% more quiet---guys it's as different as day and night!!! I noticed the new Eibach springs have much larger coils and the weight of them is at least twice of the stock springs---maybe there is some metal harmonics going on
with the stock stuff, could be the upper control arm is acting like a tuning fork I really don't know. My car is completely different and in a very good
way--just thought I would pass this information on

I got my tire noise reduced by 95% with my new exhaust :)

You have a differently sized contact patch between the road and your tire now with all of the suspension geometry changes. Have you done an alignment? Are you in or out of spec? The contact patch size will determine most of your road noise.

Reminds menof what unread long time ago:

Q: do you know why American men take up fishing or golf at retirement?

A: to get away from the nagging wife!!!!

steveg78 05-08-2010 06:15 PM

Can you quantify how you are coming up with your initial noise reduction figure of 25% and then readjusting your figure to 35%?:stirthepot:

Why do men die before their wives?

Because they want to.

SophiaZ 05-08-2010 07:37 PM

"Has there been any insanity in your family?"
"Yes, doctor. My husband thinks he's the boss."

HAHAHAHA

It's obviously time for some Henny Youngman jokes

Do you know what it means to come home at night to a woman who'll give you a little love, a little affection, a little tenderness? It means you're in the wrong house, that's what it means.

I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.

I've been in love with the same woman for forty-one years. If my wife finds out, she'll kill me.

Take my wife... Please!

I pumped my tires air pressure to 40psi,it is much quieter than the 35psi that Nissan advice, maybe less contact patch is the reason.?

Who Knows 05-09-2010 01:34 PM

You know I could really care less about all of the smart *** post made here after I thought I could share some information that others might find informative.

I lowered this car as I have many before but I have never gotten the added benifit of such a noticable difference in road noise before--yes I immediately had the car aligned--no its not the contact patch of the tire that is making the difference. Yes my wife noticed the car was quieter and not because her mouth was shut.

I'm serious, the difference is like being in a different car---I guess what I am trying to tell you folks out there is if your going to change out your springs anyway you may wish to consider the other changes I made along with it.
I'm no puppy and have changed out many things over the years--this change / results of change is a real plus

shumby 05-09-2010 01:50 PM

so you're a dog?

Who Knows 05-09-2010 02:24 PM

Yes an old dog at that --one with experience though and not so
smart I don't learn new tricks. I look to this forum for information
that is helpful to others. Sorry I bothered

I think the info is kool. But you did a lot at one time... are you sure it was the springs oonly that changed this? I would like to know which companies you used to obtain your parts? And do you have some pics? :)

tjlazer 05-11-2010 11:49 AM

Don't mind these *kids*, thanks OP for the post. Anything we can try to reduce the noise is a PLUS in my book.

Um some have been known to lower their car for looks/performance??? Thats why?
