Lighter Wheels
The most recent issue of either Car & Driver or Road & Track (can't remember which) has performance specs for different wheel sizes and basically showed a huge difference in acceleration times, which they said was almost completely related to the wheel weight. I knew it was a factor, but I had no idea it was such a big factor.
If I were more concerned with weight than looks, what are some good wheels to check out? I'm not looking to pimp my ride, so OEM sizes (sports version) are what I'd be interested in. And I'm not paying $3,000 a wheel, so I guess carbon fiber is out:mad:. |

Get some lightweight volks or if that's too rich for your blood - Rays makes several very light very strong wheels such as GramLites etc...
Stock G35 wheels weighed in at about 26/27 lbs (F/R) ...my CE28s weighed in at 18/19 lbs... car felt like a different beast! |
stock Rays are a probably a little more than 22 lbs each and probably the best you will do from a weight standpoint. My widened 350Z Rays 18" weigh 19.8 lbs each.

Check out SSR wheels... They have some lights wheels.. like the Type C or Type F maybe.

This might have been posted before (and it might be a little old in that they don't have some of the newer rims that have come out, but it gives a good idea/foundation):

If you want something light for the Z I recommend these. Lighter and cheaper than Volks as well.

Oh that's 18lbs per wheel just looked closer at the read out, durr. What are the size and offsets of those?
|
SSR typeF...... 4.5 lbs. lighter than the 19" stock. Surprising considering they are 2 piece vs. 1 pc. OEM.
|
use this, it is great. Does anyone have the exact weight of the stock sport rims?

The sport package Rays weights per Injected Performance:
370Z Stock weights: Sport 19×9.0: 23.20 lbs (10.52 kg) Sport 19×10.0: 23.80 lbs (10.80 kg) |
^^ The stock rear Rays actually have been measured to be 27 lbs per wheel. I don't think anyone corrected this info after the initial 23.8 data came out a long time ago. I wish others who have measured them can chime in. I've seen a few posts on here as well confirming that weight. The Nismo Rays are a few lbs lighter than the sport pkg Rays as well.

I kept seeing the 23.8 lbs figure which never made any sense considering the rear wheel is 1" wider |
btw did anyone try CCW. They make custom inexpensive forged wheels which the Corvette guys seem to like.
