Who else had their orders changed without notice by Forgestar

Hey forum members,

I used a forum vendor to place an order for the Forgestar M14 in matte gunmetal first week of June. Forgestar went and changed my order to a textured gunmetal finish without my approval due to manufacturing imperfections they had experienced with the matte gunmetal finish.

Of course when I called Forgestar and asked around what time they decided to drop the finish, I just got the run around like oh we don't remember what month we decided to discontinue the matte gunmetal finish. This is total BS, they are just protecting their distributor.

What irritated me further was that I was only notified of a modification of my order without my approval by the forum vendor when the wheels were just about ready to ship (almost 3 monts after I originally placed my order). The email I got from the forum member was like oh Forgestar had to modify your order to textured gunmetal.

What I'm trying to find out is whether the vendor knew about Forgestar discounting the matte gunmetal finish before placing my order just so that they can take my money and sell me something I had not originally ordered.

So who else had this happen to them and specifically did this happen to any one before June?

Richard

Cancel your order and ask for a full refund. That's unacceptable.

I already asked the forum vendor for a full refund. They don't want to issue me a full refund. What irritates me further is that they are trying to stick me with a 20% restocking fee for a cancelation on my order.

I can't believe this forum vendor. Why would I agree to pay for a 20% restocking fee on a custom order I placed that had a modification to my order without my approval. That is just absolutely absurd.

Did you pay with a credit card? I'd say you've done enough on your end. I'd call your CC company and ask to issue a chargeback.

And go ahead and tell us which vendor it is so we can avoid them.

edit: And send a PM to Trips and AK. I don't personally think this forum does a very good job with handling vendors, but it also can not improve unless you give it a chance to.

Dispute it with your credit card company as they're not giving you the "Exact" product that you ordered. They're trying to bully you into accepting their conditions using the restocking fee scare tactic. Don't settle for less, they didn't fulfill their end of the deal so why should you be penalized?

Seems unlikely since he has a golden track record so far... but everyone makes mistakes and should have the opportunity to improve. Hope the vendor in question can provide their side of it too...but it certainly seems like sh!tty customer service in this case.

Two sides to every story.

Definitely file a chargeback with your CC company. I had to do the same thing with another wheel vendor (not on this site). My money was immediately credited back to me and then my CC co. and vendor settled it out.

since 2011 or so, specifically on this site, Iv read about 4 stories on how Forgestar messed up orders, extended for months, couldnt get the finish right, sent wrong wheel widths, or sent different finishes in one order. So yeah, Iv heard of others having issues but thats like the .1% I think.

There should be ZERO complication when it comes to giving a wheel company 4 figures for wheels and getting what you asked for. I would request a refund if they arent anything close to what you wanted.

I paid by debit card. I'll make another post to update this community.

Not everyone may feel the same way...

Who else had their orders changed without notice by Forgestar

Every story usually does have two sides, but I feel this one only has one.

There are two scenarios I believe likely happened.

1. Forgestar decided to drop the finish after they accepted my order and started to machine the wheels to my spec. At some point, realized they were having too many imperfections with the matte gunmetal finish on a M14 wheel. Forgestar most likely notified the forum vendor at this point. Afraid that this change would request in a cancelation, either Forgestar or the forum vendor decided to modify the finish on my order without my approval.

2. The forum vendor knew of the decision by Forgestar to discontinue the matte gunmetal finish on the M14 wheel, but ultimately wanted to take my money on the order and hope that I would be alright with a different finish.

I did finally get my full refund on my initial deposit for the wheels after several back and forth emails. But how I got it, was absolutely absurd and time consuming. Not sure how this forum approves vendors, but that process absolutely needs to change. Remember, your community is also your customer, not just the vendor!

I could have gone through the dispute route with my bank, but I felt this issue needed to go a step further. I felt I was being mistreated. I felt that once a judge heard the claim, he/she would absolutely favor on my side. I went online and filed a small claims suit in LA county against this vendor. I then hired a process server to serve the authorized agent of process at this company by Monday if I hadn't received my full refund by Friday. About an hour after they opened on Friday, I received my full refund.

I'm not here to completely bash this vendor, but I'm almost certain that if I showed the email thread, the community would agree with me. That this vendor absolutely sucks! I completely believe this forum vendor knew they were just d*cking me around and once they saw the law suit knew that I would win the claim against them and refunded me immediately.

Good for you.

There is also a member who hated his Fast Intentions exhaust. I am sure we are glad we all learned from his story.
