Tire Mounted Cattywompus

Hi all,

So I am having some interesting problems with my wheel/tires. (http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...-moonbeam.html).

I took the wheels off to measure the backspacing and was immediately confronted with a puzzler. Probably not so much a puzzle as I think I know the answer but, just want to get a sanity check.

My front tires seem to be mounted offcenter. Wait, bear with me. The bead/lip on the outside of the wheel extends about 10mm past the edge of the wheel lip. On the other hand, on the inner side, it extends 1-2mm.

The guys that mounted it noted that mounting the front two tires had been a PITA, but that they´d gotten it taken care of.

The tires themselves are 285/30r20 Michelin PSP mounted on a 10" wheel. Which according to tire rack is the measured width for the tire. So I know it´s not the wheel or tire themselves. Gotta be a bad mount job, right?

I don't claim to be a guru of any sort so I am posting on the off chance that this might be normal for some tires. Thoughts?

take it to a different shop?

i was literally just pulling 'em off to do just that.

Sounds like a bad mount job.

Bad mount job!!!! Speak with the manager and demand that they fix all damages to the vehicle (I.E. damage to your MoonBeam kit)

haha not a bad idea. though, i don't think the problem was solely related to the tire mount at this point.

gotta get this fixed and then get her aligned to see, but 99.999999% chance of rebarrel at this point.

There is a possibility that the outer rim is constructed differently from the inner. A few photos will clear this up. Include a few with an angle to show the 10mm to the 2mm.

Let's get this straightened up before going on a witch hunt.

SouthArk/POSVett. Thoughts? I have them loaded in the back of my 4runner ready to take to the shop, but it's been one of those weeks at work and I haven't been able to sneak out.

I am pretty convinced it is a bad mount job.

Took it to a local tire place and they said this was probably normal based on the design.

It is the guys I for my wife's van and my 4runner.

Anyone object to their analysis (based on facts haha) I am still skeptical.

Ah, the rim protector.

AntiVenom 01-24-2017 07:09 PM

Yea, funny thing is the rear doesn't look the same despite being the same model. I also have never seen it on only one side.

Learn something new every day.
