Forgestar F14 Wheels
Hey everyone, I'm looking to get Forgestar F14s wheels instead of going the TE37S route (getting kind of tired looking at them on my TL). The F14 is a great looking wheel that I was looking to run in my mustang days. After doing a quick Google search, there have been a number of complaints about the structural integrity of these wheels. I have seen posts on BMW/FT86 forums stating that these wheels bend or crack easily and occur shortly after purchase in addition to Forgestar customer service being a pain to deal with when filing a claim.
I know a number of you in the 370Z community are rocking these wheels and have been for some time. Can any of you shed any light on this subject? Hopefully these complaints have just been blown out of proportion through the internet. I plan on running the wheel on Michelin PSS as a daily driver with some occasional spirited driving. I will be switching back to stock wheels for winter. Thanks for the help! :tiphat: |
i ordered michlin PSS a week ago. 255/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear
2014 sport Z 255's came in, 305's are back ordered till jan 8th. , i also ordered forgestar F14 stage 2 candy red gloss wheels, deep concave. 19x9.5 +20 19x11 +15 . this is for flush fitment, no spacers required. perfect fit, no rubbing etc, and I'm also on swift springs. wheels will take 4-6 weeks to make / shipped. as a 370z driver, you should be a pro at watching the road and avoiding pot holes / bumps. as long as you avoid these, you should be good. as with any wheels, a huge pothole will crack the wheel. these are forged wheels, strong. you should be good my friend, order the wheels :) Quote:

I've had mine for around a month now and no issues at all. Daily driven with lots of spirited driving. And I do drive on some not so perfect roads. They're by no means the worse but they do have plenty of bumps

Stumbled upon this thread and thought I would correct some information. Forgestar wheels, even though their name has the word forge in it doesnt mean they are forged.
Forgestar calls their process "Rotary Forged Flowforming" which is similar I guess you can say to Enkei / Gramlights Flowform process. Link to their website on the process Taken directly from their site : " This specialized process begins with a low pressure type of casting and uses a special machine that spins the initial casting, heats the outer portion of the casting and then uses steel rollers pressed against the rim area to pull the rim to its final width and shape. The combination of the heat, pressure and spinning create a rim area with the strength similar to a forged wheel. During Flow Forming, the pressure applied to the cast rim actually changes its mechanical properties, so its strength and impact values become similar to those of a forged rim. That translates to up to 15% less weight when compared to a standard cast wheel. The resulting grain structure within the alloy of the wheel is linear, flowing in a single direction. " I am not saying Forgestar doesnt make nice looking wheels, but they are nowhere close in strength as a truly mold-form forged wheel like a Rays Volk Racing TE37SL. Yep, I can personally attest to the strength of the Volk TE37. That wheel has been through hell and back with me and still holds strong to this day. Supposedly, Forgestar's flowform process makes the wheel stronger than traditional cast wheels with less weight but the complaints I've been seeing on other forums have been with the wheels is cracking/bending on the barrels. This leads me to believe that Forgestar wheels are light in nature but are not any stronger than a regular low pressure cast wheel. The original post was to see if anybody on the 370Z forums have had problems with their Forgestar F14s as it seems a number of you have been running them for quite some time. If anyone has any additional input, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
