Dunlop tires
So I was looking at the GTR in the showroom and it had Dunlop tires size 20. Did some research on Tirerack and they are very light in size 18 about 25# and the comments said they were quiet. The only negative was they grabbed the ruts in the road. Anybody using them and is it faux pas to make them 245 all the way around or does that rotor bolt prevent this. Also will placing British tires on a Japanese car get you kick out of a z club. haha

Dunlop has been Japanese owned for years ...

Quote In 1999 Sumitomo RI and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of the US formed a joint venture. Goodyear obtained the Dunlop tyre assets in Europe and the US, and Sumitomo RI continued to sell Dunlop tyres in other countries. The Dunlop Tyres company in South Africa was acquired by the Indian company Apollo Tyres. In December 2013 Apollo Tyres sold most of its South African operations to Sumitomo RI for $60 million (Rs 3.33 billion) including the Ladysmith passenger car tyre plant. Apollo Tyres has retained its Durban plant, which manufactures truck & bus radial (TBR) tyres and off-highway tyres used in the mining and construction industries. Sumitomo RI also acquired ownership rights for the Dunlop brand in 32 African markets Unquote Since I am in Australia, my statement is correct. Since you are in the US, the Dunlop product is US produced. Dunlop has not been UK owned for years, which was my point. |
I've used Dunlaps many times when I owned Jaguars.
They were very quiet, good for everyday driving. However, they wore very quickly. Much in the selection of tires has to do with driving habits and what you use your car for. My choice for a all purpose tire for the Z is Hankook V-12's. I had them on my Z33(19's)And now on my Z34. They are smooth running, quiet and good for everything but track use(sidewall are too soft). They last too. |
Had dunlops on my sti, they were good tires but I wouldn't but them again

we called them Dunflops cause when they lose air they go flop flop flop:eekdance:

i had starspecs on a previous hobby car. was good, nice grip.
made in japan and all. i remember a long time ago i use to run sp8000's on my hobby car to carve canyons. did well too. |
I had Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs on my BNR32. Those tires were great! I didn't have them long enough to comment on their entire tread life, though. Dunlop makes decent tires in my experiences.
