Tire size options for base OEM wheels?

Tire size is 18x8 and 18x9 on a base model OEM wheels.
Stock size is 225-50-18 and 245-40-18.

I would like to go something like 245-40-18 and 255-35-18.

Does this even work? What have others done with the base wheels?

Today I just put 245/45's on the front and 275/40's on the rear on the base wheels and they fit fine and look good on the car...fills up the wheel well really nice.

^That^. 255/35 will be too short
