Need new tires input appreciated
Well my stock tires lasted just over 10,000 miles. So time for new ones. I have stock Rays sport wheels. I do not want to run spacers. I plan on going with Michelin super sports. I want to go wider front and back but don't want taller obviously. What can I go with without any rubbing, etc?
I tried searching but I did not find the answer. |
You'll run out of rim before you start rubbing with the stock wheels. You can do 255/40 front with 285/35 rear no problem.

What about 305/30 in the back? Or 295/30

My dad runs a shop. So I could get it done. But if it isn't right, I wouldn't do that. Hmmmm, not sure what to go with. They do make 295/35r19. (Kinda pricey though!) Thoughts?

Spoke to my dad and he thinks I should go with the stock Nismo sizes. Geez, in my 40s and I still ask dad for advice.

i'm running 265/305 on my stock rays, no spacers, no rubs, fit perfectly.

I ended up ordering spacers and ARP studs. 15mm front 20 rear. Saw it on a local Z and it looked good. Going with stock nismo size tires 255 front 285 rear pilot super sports.

Should go with stock size. I thought of going 305's on the back of my nismo until I drove a friends with the setup. Stock feels like it is on rails, oversize feels like marshmallows to me like the sidewalks are flexing exorbitantly.
As I said I wanted to do it and I know it can be done on the 19's of a Nismo, but if you are looking for a limited informed opinion, I'd say don't do it. It's only done for the look anyway, why not just get spacers? |

also spacers and wider tires are two different things. going with wider tires doesn't make the wheels stick out further as spacers would. |
It is not just for looks. My car has a hard time hooking now with the super charger. I highly doubt using the same size tire as the nismo z will make it handle worse. Not only that but going from stock to super sports will help too.

maybe consider something like a toyo R888 if you're still spinning PSS's I switched from PSS's to RE-11s and they are stickier. bumping to something like a R88 is even more sticky. |

I wanted the 305 for the look myself, even researched it on here and got a wide variety of "yes it awesome" & "don't it messes up the car". There's a pretty long thread on here somewhere where a member got them and then came to ask why his ride didn't feel right. I'll see if I can find it, a poster in there had the reason I just can't recall it off hand. My post wasn't to start and argument though because I know for sure they will fit. My buddy had 285 up front 305 in back. I think that's about the limit you can go on the stock 19 rays though...maybe 295 on the front, 315 on back? But would be pushing it at that point. |
op- just get the RE11's and be over with. do it right the first time.
