Great photos. Kind of you to escort that hoopty. ;-)

Korlor04 08-25-2014 01:21 PM

That hoopty is also the owner of that Aston Martin V8 Vantage! An old friend of mine! He's lived in Texas his whole life and has decided recently to make Colorado his home. In the spirit of our great state and the amazing mountains he have, i took him on this drive. Going up clear creek and then on the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway to Estes Park. Fun day!

Crypto2k 08-25-2014 01:45 PM

I'm sure he found it much more enjoyable than driving around Texas. Love that drive. I was being sarcastic, they're certainly both nice cars.

SurfDog 08-26-2014 10:53 PM

Hey Guys, A friend of mine from work is bringing his Audi A4 down to HPR for morning laps on Friday Sep 5th.

Anybody want to come join us? I'll be throwing my track brake pads. track wheels, and probably doing a brake bleed on labor day in the pm at my place up in Conifer to get ready.

Anybody who wants to bleed in some RBF 600, or put in some pads or just hang out drop me a PM and ill give you my contact info. (BYO parts)

Also if you are new to lap days at HPR. Shadeez and I have done a few together and its a blast. PM me and I can hook you up with all the info you need to get on the track (There is nothing to it... well 120 bucks or so, but very easy to do)

It would be great to get a good Z showing out there. Stock setup is fine. You may just need to cool your oil/brakes after every few hard laps, no biggie, you will love it.

Bring him out to HPR next Friday (see post above). My buddy drives his dad's V12 Vantage Carbon Edition out there with us now and then, It's a great track for the Vantage.

We are going 7 am to noon.

Korlor04 08-27-2014 09:39 AM

How does our Oil Temps in the Z do while tracking? I've always wanted to track the Z but even just minor spirited driving up the mountains my oil temp dips into the 240 range. Did you install in an Oil Cooler??

SurfDog 08-27-2014 10:41 AM

I put in a 25 row Stillen oil cooler from z1. My temps never get over 220 or so. Shadeez does not run a cooler (at least not last we ran together) and he gets up to 260 after a few laps (4 maybe?). But it works out okay he runs a few hard laps the. A cool down lap then parks on the paddock awhile to cool down. I don't usually run much longer than he does before I feel like its time for a break.

My takeaway? Get a cooler. It's not fun to have to be forced to stop Lapping and they are relatively easy to put in. Make sure you get a thermostatic plate in your kit so you can get up to temp (140?) in the winter.

Also for the track, bleeding your brakes to remove DOT 3 brake fluid and bleeding in DOT 4 is a must! I use MOTUL RBF 600, but any good race fluid is probably fine. The guys at road and track crashed the press release 09 Z when it first came out due to not doing this before the tracked the car. Their brakes totally failed and they hit a wall at full speed. (Note their is not much danger of this at HPR as it built with lots of overrun out in cornfield country... No walls)

Shadezz 08-28-2014 09:19 AM

I will try my best to make this one Surfdog!!

SurfDog 08-30-2014 07:45 PM

I'm bleeding the brakes and putting track pads back in Thursday night if you'd like to come up and join. I think bleeding at least one per season is good insurance to keep the RBF dry. (I read that ss lines help too)

Pads in!

Crypto2k 09-03-2014 09:37 PM

That's what she said..

JK... lookin' good!

I'm out this round. Heading up rafting all weekend but will try to make it soon. Dying to see what this whole track thing is about.

Shadezz 09-04-2014 08:22 AM

I so need to order my rear rotors to match my fronts...I'm trying my best to get everything handled with my business's so I can try to attend the track tomorrow.

It was a little wet and slippery out there in the morning but dried off enough to run 2:10s around 11:00 am.

I only ran the morning session.:driving:

SurfDog 09-07-2014 10:15 PM

Im putting some video together tonight (mostly just laps) I probably won't post it though. Lets get a few Z's out there so we can have some more interesting video.

(My new camera mount for track video is AWESOME.)(home made)

Shadezz 09-09-2014 12:37 PM

Post anyways..maybe it will encourage people to get out there...Carbon Drive shaft should be here later this week!!

SurfDog 09-11-2014 12:56 AM

I figured out while swapping out to track brake pads that my rotors are on backwards. (cooling vents between disks should turn to draw air through pad...hard to put into words)

anyhow... :( need to pull calipers and reinstall!

SurfDog 09-24-2014 10:34 AM

On the way from z1 wrapped in race rubber!
Also camber kit and Stillen brake ducts!!

RLami 09-24-2014 03:37 PM

Those are some good looking wheels! What kind of tires?

BTW, Hello! I'm new to the forum several months ago, and am just now getting around to posting. I am from the Springs area. I hope I can make it out to some events to meet you guys.

SurfDog 09-24-2014 04:43 PM

I ordered all that stuff from z1 Motorsports here is a list of the things I have coming:
1 x SPL Front Upper Control Arms (370Z / G37) = $764.00
1 x Stillen 370Z Front Brake Cooling Kit = $291.00
Fascia Type OEM (Non-Nismo)
1 x GM Advan RS 18X10+15 Used wheels = $1,450.00
4 x Toyo RA1 275/35 R18 = $1,104.00
1 x Mount and Balance = $100.00

Woot!

SurfDog 09-24-2014 04:52 PM

I'll keep posting my track days and hopefully you can make it up. You don't have to drive your first day out if you'd like to see what it's all about. Your welcome to ride with me all day. I usually go with a guy in a 65 Farrari, a guy in a 65 stingray and sometimes Shadezz in his Z. We are probably done till spring, but I might sneak in ONE MORE!

That would be very cool! that's a generous offer that I would absolutely love to take up!

My car isn't quite ready for track, as it's base with no mods. I'm currently out of the country until January, so next spring I will be there. I've never had the opportunity to get into track days, but have always wanted to.

That's a pretty nice list of stuff you have coming your way! TOYO RA1 :yum:, and that price on those wheels!!!

Susp., Wheels, Brakes, Diff in that order for the future for me.

SurfDog 09-24-2014 08:41 PM

Id add an oil cooler to the list if you plan to push the car in warm, thin air, Denver summers

SurfDog 09-24-2014 08:44 PM

brakes (just pads and braided lines if you have sport package), cooler, Wheels will give better return on investment than suspension I'd say, but I'm no expert.

Here's a little more in depth analysis (that I've caught a lot of grief over...but still i think is pretty valid)
http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ond-rough.html

RLami 09-24-2014 08:45 PM

I'm curious to see how the car does stock in that regard. I've flogged it pretty hard in the mountains for a good hour or two when I got it, and I didn't see over 235ish. I pay very close attn to my oil, and I consider myself a bit of an oil snob, as I browse BITOG oil forums religously. lol.

If it gets too high, then on goes the cooler, though!

Just saw your last post...I've got a base.

Call Z1 they have another set of those wheels in silver.
Also they are great for suggestions on brakes and might be able to source some used sport brakes. (from someones upgrade). My quaife LSD is really great almost a must have I'd say.

Crypto2k 09-24-2014 09:01 PM

That's the route I'd like to go, as it's seemingly best bang/buck. Otherwise a Quaife is what I was aiming for as well. It just seems that the reviews make it seem very streetable with little maintenance and as reliable as stock.

I'm gonna pick up some varrstoen ES6 (meister knock offs). But at that price used, i might bite

SurfDog 09-25-2014 07:18 PM

The Quaife is awesome up until you try to run in snow. It's great for dry and wet but acts open if you lift a wheel or have zero traction.

SurfDog 09-25-2014 07:21 PM

I've been tracking (not racing) on the sport brakes and two piece rotors. I'm no expert but I'd say that brake setup is totally adequate on the track. I'm putting 275 race rubber up front soon so I'll get back to you with real racing brake impressions after I do some seriously heavy stops soon.

Denver Thread

Hey denver guys. I think I'm done tracking for the season, so I'm putting in a bunch of parts next week.

1. SPL upper control arms
2. White line sway bars.
3. Reinstall my Z1 brake rotors. (Their in backwards... Oops)
4. Mount up my 18 inch square tire setup.

Anyhow if anybody has parts laying around and are up for a bolt on tech day ( not Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday.) let me know. This stuff is always more fun with a buddy.
