2 things..first is UpRev as far as houston tuners go the only reputable one I know of is EngineLogics, they have a good rep so far that I know of. Second is TT/supercharging the 370, The car already has overheating issues, fuel starvation, etc. So wouldn't that only increase those issues ? Especially when tracking the vehicle.

I think those issues will not increase with a better tune if tracking because they are already there even with the stock tune and will be solved with proper track prep. |

Unless something has changed, John Page of 21st Century Muscle Cars (Lingenfelter) here in Dallas will not do anymore twin turbo cars due to overheating issues. FI and increased heat comes with the territory. Now..how about the tuning questions I asked?? Valve lift? Timing? Does UpRev even have a dyno? |

I'm sure some company will jump out there and add software controls for it, and customers will suffer with poorly running cars because of it. Or the customer will have to come out of pocket when parts of the VVEL system start failing. Thats just not how we want to do business. So once we have a bit better understanding of what controls we can find, along with physical limits of the system (endurance testing) we'll start to create software to control it. You probably won't see anything like that for a while though. The engineers at Nissan really have gotten so much out of it so far, we're not sure of what gains may even be capable if any. |

Well the timing isn't static, and the reason you're seeing the car pull timing so much is probably because the AP is putting too much timing in and the car is hitting detonation, which makes the ECU go into a high det map and pull a bunch of timing. As far as adjusting it via the AP after you get a real tune on it, thats not going to work as our software works as the ROM on the vehicle. You'd have to pick between one of the two softwares to run. |

Cipher will only work as of 10-7-09 on HR and VHR cars that have an Osiris Flash on them. Before flashing, Cipher does not work. |

If they have a dyno then they should get on the bandwagon and get to tuning Houston cars. Right now all Houston customers that want a dyno tune have to drive to Austin. I know that shortly Import Parts Pro will have the ability to flash cars, but I think they will be renting dyno time. They aren't a Pro Tuner, but they are a dealer. When you make a car forced induction, or you're making lots more power, then you're also generating more heat. So if you're doing that and not doing anything to help compensate for that heat generated then thats an issue for you to deal with. No amount of tuning will help. |

We seem to have a bit of a disconnect. I'm trying to spend money and live less than three hours away......... do you guys take money? Do you guys have a dyno? Do you guys tune cars? Didn't make it too complicated did I? Basically modded out and except for FI, there isn't much that can be done to the car so my last step is a real tune. Let me make it even simpler.....can you tune my car? Didn't go over your head did I? |

Figured being IT minded, I needed to dumb it down a bit or maybe text it so he understands. |
Considering he has said that for Houston owners we have to go to him to get our tune I think he does.

Yeah they USED to only do Cobb but quit because of something do to with the licensing and they paid a whole bunch of money and then they offered it to everyone for very little. I wasn't actually saying they should offer it to Enginelogics because I doubt they would take it (they are pretty fond of stand alone EMS) but if UpRev showed them what it is and then maybe they would. I was simply stating they are the best I know of in Houston. |

Yeah they got a DD and they are very confident and proud of it haha. They said "It doesn't read low/high, it reads correct !" Made me feel confident in them, they also do everything in house and are really cool people to deal with. He lives in a house attached to the shop which is nice because it's kind of a safe feeling for me. I hope they get it because I am comfortable with their work and they are closer than Austin.:driving: |

Got gears on order and trying to get a real tune n I'm done. After that......Denny's going to the track to see what the little sucker really will do. Plaay timmme. |

In trying to break down and decipher what you wrote, my interpretation is the lift can be changed on the Nissan VVEL. Basically duration controls where peak power will happen in the rpm range but addition lift increases peak power at that particular point. If we can increase the lift and the heads flow efficiently at the higher lift level, then peak power will increase on a assumptive basis. It's my opinion from material read prior on head flow numbers, the 370 has some pretty killer heads. |
Damn Denny that was a little rough wasn't it? I don't know that it was the best way to build a relationship with uprev. I like you, but I would've told you to f off if you wrote that to me.
Anyway, this thread has been pretty damn interesting and I wish I could contribute a little more. At least one of those ROM Dumps that HPLogic offered is from my car, so at least I can say I helped a bit. Keep it up! |
+1 ... Denny, take a chill pill bro ! ;)

Anyway downloaded the latest version of the Cobb software and spent the afternoon Friday on the dyno mostly tweaking the fuel/air as potential track time is kinda running out this year. Did do a couple of pulls attempting to play with the timing and your absolutely correct about the timing being dynamic. Really hard to get the pulse of the beast but also appears your correct in that it has a bit too much timing in the midrange and that's causing the computer to go bonkers. Difficult to tune as you put 2 degrees in, it pulls some out. You add two degrees and it pulls some timing out. Plus the overall timing is 3 degrees more than the last log session. In addition, who knows if the Cobb software is working correctly but it did seem to work on air/fuel. Hey, nothing hard about tuning these things is there.?? |
most good efi systems have adjusted timing. That is why i wish we had programs with the options to change the knock retard rates or the multiple maps, or the coolant temp retard values and the other little things so we could actually have control of the car's ecu.

Well, FWIW, I met up with Sharif (Forged Performance) last week to do the ROM dump. Turns out UpRev already has a ROM for my ECU so it wasn't necessary to send my ROM off to them for patching. I was all ready to let Sharif tune my car as soon as he could get me in, but he just called me to let me know that UpRev has asked him to hold off on reflashing any ECUs. Turns out there are a couple of minor kinks they want to iron out. I'm happy to wait; I'm not one complain about people being extra diligent. Anyway, just thought I'd pass on this latest tidbit of info to rest of you.

Is it possible to dump my ROM w/o going to a shop? I'd like to contribute but the nearest Uprev tuner is 2+ hrs away. Also I've got cipher + OBDII cable.
|
Quote:
You can only dump it if you have Osiris. |

Adam @ Z-1 Performance called me and my gears are shipping. Very happy to wait and my hats are off to anyone whom takes the time to do it correctly. Nothing wrong with that and everything right about it. |
Thanks for bumping this, heading to Austin for the weekend and will need to call and drop off my ECU to help them (if it is one needed). I am waiting to do my tuning until my exhaust is in and decide what new intake to upgrade to.

How can I find a Pro tuner in my area that deals with Uprev?

So just to clarify, all we can do right now is dump our ROMs and just wait for the product to be finalized correct?

Do let us know. I thought I was gonna go cobb, but it seems uprev is the better of the two.

Hit me up in e-mail and we can get everything figured out, ROM files etc to make sure we can get you in soon. Rich- |
