Nav software update: Will it Affect Uprev?
Do I need to flash the ECU back to stock (i.e., remove uprev license) for a Navigation system software update or can I just leave it alone with uprev on there?
Again, this is an update just for the NAV and not for any other aspect of the ECU software. Please let me know for certain ASAP! Thanks! |

Ya... They could flash over the ECM , but if your going in for navi work they shouldn't be doing anything else

Okay -- whew. Thanks for clarifying!
Should I explicitly tell them anything to that effect? As in "ONLY update the nav software -- so not do anything that alters the ECU", or will they just look at me like I have three heads? On a related note, is the same true for body ECU stuff -- that alterations to that software are independent of the EFI ECU? |

I thought that it did (along with the body), but since it can probably all be accessed from the OBD port I wasn't sure what aspects of the programming code are shared and changed together vs. independently, hence my concerns. |

Who's your tuner? Keep it simple, just tell them only to update the navi Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'll make sure to tell them that only nav updates are to be made -- no touchy of the powertrain ECU. Thanks, gents  |
The nav updates are through dvd's loaded into the head unit, right? They would have to go out of their way to even access the ecu.

If that's the case, then I really don't have anything to worry about. Is that for both software (e.g., music playing) as well as updating the location maps and such. |

Update:
First, thanks gents -- you guys were 100% right regarding the navi updates not affecting anything. Second, apparently the problem I've had -- the nav screen going blank occasionally as well as intermittent poor ipod connectivity -- is not merely fixed with a software update, but with replacement of the whole nav touch screen! See also here: http://www.the370z.com/audio-video/3...d-problem.html I'll post details when this is done as well as scan and post a pdf of the relevant TSB -- it's not 370Z specific, and I don't think it's been uploaded here previously. |

Update part II:
Here is the TSB -- should I forward this to a Mod or AK? If any mods are monitoring this thread, please feel free to move this pdf to the TSB repository. |

There appears to be several (possibly unrelated) issues known to crop up: 1. Screen randomly going blank -- the TSB I posted. 2. Intermittent poor ipod connectivity -- typically fixed with software update 3. General GPS issues -- software update 4. Failure to recognize ipod at all -- either bad USB port or software (and sometime, end user's fault for having cheap-o usb connector). There is a TSB for checking whether or not the USB port works. All of the above are pretty common, but occur infrequently and somewhat randomly, so they become tough to troubleshoot. I beleive the TSB for the blank navi screen issue actually says the tech is supposed to "confirm what the customer says" rather than "duplicate the problem"... Hopefully my problems are in the #1 and #2 range, so should be completely resolved after Saturday... I'll keep you guys posted. |
I got lucky that my screen blacked out while I was on the way to the dealer for something unrelated. I dragged the tech out to see it before I even turned off the car.
|
Well, they replaced the screen and so far so good. I'll report back if anything wonky happens or if the problem resurfaces.
Allegedly, no navi updates for me tho... |
