Is it possible to un-tune my car?

I visited Performance Motorsports in LI about 3 hours away to get my tune on a dyno. Now I want to sell the car and remove the tune but would also like to retain the license so I can either reuse it or sell it.

Anyone know how to do this? I'd assume I'd need the Cypher cable but how do I reload a stock map?

Driving 3 hours each way isn't really an option for me right now.

I think a dealer can reflash your edc. Not an expert though. I'm sure you'll get better advice from some of the techie guys here.

Also I think you might be able to just unplug your battery for a minute. But am not sure about that one.

You will need a Cipher cable to remove the tune and then you will need a stock map to reflash the car. The tune (license) then sits in the cable till it is re-installed onto another car.

Any idea how I get a stock map? I have a stock map programed now to one of the switchable maps... can I just leave that one on there and remove the rest?

Nope... the tune you have loaded now contains the multiple maps... you need to load a stock tune with no maps.

You need a cable and a stock map. I don't know if just anyones map will do, I think they are serialized to your ECU...

The stock maps are by vehicle configuration and by production year if things change. So at the minimum you have:

Base
Base auto
Base sport
Base sport auto
Touring
Touring auto
Touring sport
Touring sport auto
Touring nav
Touring nav auto
Touring sport nav
Touring sport nav auto
Nismo

Your tuner might have stored your stock file and can email it to you.

Hmm I'll have to try and email them... maybe they have it.

If not I'm not sure what to do unless I can somehow copy someone elses or maybe UpRev can provide one.

ChrisSlicks 09-25-2012 02:25 PM

Uprev should have a base file since that is what they create the tune from in the first place, but they may or may not send it to you.

We can get your License upgraded to an Osiris standard(which is your license and a cipher cable enabled with standard software) Give us a call or PM Vince@R/T and he can get you all set up. Its pretty easy once you do it once you will be a pro....:tup:

Contact Uprev. They will send you a Back to Stock file. This file will restore the OEM Tune and put the Uprev license back on your cable. This only work is you have Osiris flash capabilities on your Uprev license

Yeah I think that's the catch. If you just have a base license installed then it has to be upgraded if you want to make it transferable. Base tuner licenses are not transferable. Get the upgrade and then you should be good.

Sell the car with the tune and have the new owner pay for the upgrade if they want it....

or

buy the upgrade for $200, sell the License for more than $200 (less than $500 retail) to someone who wants the UpRev. Trick is, they still don't have a tune or any e-tunes if they buy from you.. so I would say $350 for the package and then they can buy an e-tune from Vince or Seb and get their ride tuned.... about $50 a tune

I've always wondered. If you go "go back to stock".

Can the dealer tell, e.g. will each flash leave a time stamp, or will the latest flash show a time stamp, that sort of thing?

Tapatalk & such etc

If a dealer looks for it, they'll be able to tell the car has been tuned. Even if it's been flashed back to stock.

MattP725 09-25-2012 08:36 PM

I have an email out to UpRev... I'll just call them tomorrow... at the end of the day I have a stock map programed in (selectable) and I can just leave it on that and trade it in... if it just costs 200 for the cable then I will put it back to stock but I still need the map. Not even looking to make a profit, heck if it was just the cable I would sell the whole thing for like $200-300. If I have to spend money on the cable AND upgrading the license it won't be worth it to me.
