Upshift Indicator

I'm asking this question for a friend of mine. My friennd has a 2010 nissan 370z automatic. He wants to know if any speed shop can do a software upgrade so he can use the upshift indicator when driving in sport mode. The manual transmission 370z's have it where they can set the rev limit and the circle starts blinking in the tach to let you know when to shift. Is there a way to have this programmed into the car? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

anyone?

Someone claimed they had it on a 2011 model in another thread, but I don't think I've ever seen a confirmation of that. My 2009 doesn't have it. And no, there's absolutely no chance of any simple "software upgrade" at the dealership enabling it on a car that doesn't have it.

I was figuring that since the circle for the upshift indicator is on the automatics, there has to be a way to have it working. Shy have the circle in the tach if it has no functionality

The indicator light is there to make manufacturing cheaper, so they don't have to have separate parts for different cars. In theory, it's a pretty simple software fix. In practice, it's just not going to happen :)

Now, I did not know that. I'm gonna check that out in the spring when I bring the Z out of hibernation.

my 2011 does. whenever its time to shift, even in regular drive, the light flashes. i didnt realize 2010s and 2009s didnt do this
bow down lol!!!!!!!!

OP: im sure someone could copy the datafrom a 2011, but who knows how much that'll cost ? (i dont :) )

The only viable thing like this you could do is to swap your 2010 ECU for a 2011 ECU. Even then I'm not sure which modules you'd need to swap. Maybe just the main ECU, or maybe just whichever sub-ECU (BCM?) runs the dash display? But there's a reason dealers don't regularly provide hardware ECU upgrades in older cars like this: sometimes there are lots of other undocumented changes to account for as well. Maybe they changed the vendor for the oil pressure sensor and it gives a different voltage reading now, and you switch to a 2011 ECU and you get a permanent low oil pressure light. Who knows, random example.

You're right... my '09 doesn't do it.

Thanks for the info. My friend is going to go to the dealership and see what they say about it

If they're like most dealerships, not only will they not know what the light is, but they also will be unable to do anything regarding tuning.

very interested in this as well. hopefully it's an easy thing to do. I wonder if you can some how enable the light if you get ur car tuned?

wstar 10-28-2011 01:19 PM

I'll say it again for the 400th time. The dealer can't do anything for you. There's no point in even wasting time talking to a dealer about this. I know it seems like a simple thing, but it really isn't. And no, UpRev doesn't currently do this either, although I guess you could ask them to research it.

again, they would most likely have to transplant a 2011 up ECM to make it work.

Or, you know, buy one of the 10,000 cheap shift light options out there on the market and just install that :)
