reflashing a base to a Nismo

I was talking with my friend that still works at a Nissan Dealer about how the Nismo Z's respond better to the same mods than the base/sport models do. They both are basicly the same car aside from the different body parts. An ECU would be an expensive swap right now. The key reprogam is not a problem for me. He can do it for free. He mentioned is if it maybe possible to get the flash code # from a Nismo and reflash my sport so the I am guessing it is the VVEL will be tuned more aggressively. He is going to the Irving, TX training center next month and said he will ask around up there. A couple of the trainer are pretty knowledgible or know somebody that is. I don't want to toast my ECU. Hell if the dealer is doing it I may get it warrenteed if it does ruin my ECU. I will let you know what he comes up with.

Honestly I thought the Nismo only had an exhaust on it to make it different? I could be wrong... the Nismo is only at 350 hp... if we are at 332, and a full exhaust makes about 18 hp to the wheels give or take.. that would do it wouldn't it?

Also, I wouldn't think it would be worth the trouble, as the Nismo has shown not to be much, if any faster than the standard models.

Yes the Nismo has a tuned ECU. But I would think you could just get an Uprev tune and get the same out of it.

with the uprev tune you get more than nismo

I was told by my tuner that it was harder to tune the Nismo because the computer was already tuned a little, but basically once you tune a Z it becomes thing.

I think you need the gas cap also for that power, not just a flash.:shakes head:

I want to be flashed by a hot babe driving a GTR, and then try to catch her.

Fail.

You need to be flashed by a hot girl in a 370 while you drive a gtr so you can catch up with her.

Dude, are you serious? I don't need a GTR to catch a girl in a 370Z.

I figured giving her the GTR would make up for her handicap. :p

my understanding was the Nismo's responded better to mods that a base model. If the VVEL which hasn't be cracked yet is tuned different it maybe advantagious to run it that way. I can't justify a rev up tune since the closest dyno shop that is rev up certified 5 hours from me. This I can get done for FREE.

I would guess that the only difference between the two programs is a little more knock tolerance. The standard ECU program pulls timing pretty quickly if they detect knock, but there is also a knock map that determines how much knock should be tolerated before pulling timing. It would be interesting to pull the stock maps up on two cars to compare side by side.

You could talk to UpRev and see if you can get e-Tuned. Not the same as tuning the car on a dyno but it may yield some pretty good results.
