steve gears are awesome!!i dont dd my car, i have a honda yay!!:rofl2:but seriously no issues at all , but i have not tracked the car yet(road course). prolly put a thousand miles on them, lost about 1 mpg so over all not bad.

will the tune account for the gears, if there even is a way? That and the pulley and all should get you some gains and be a pretty fast Z.

yes they can recalibrate it to a 1 to 1 ratio in 5th gear. It as fast as it can be here with humidity @ like a 1000% haha

B1nks 07-26-2010 11:04 PM

The problem I am still curious about is the rev match feature with changing out the gear ratios. Will it still work, I dunno. I was disappointed in the numbers I put down on the mustang dyno my Z went on. Put down something like 307whp on UpRev's Dynojet but only 273hp/213trq on SecretService Auto's Mustang dyno. My STi got 276hp/313trq on stock turbo and a couple bolt ons like intake/exhaust and a tune. The Z really needs FI to hang with a lot of other cars on the road, in a straight line..twisties the Z feels great and I wish the STi had electris steering ! Even though the Z power disappointed me I still miss it !

street driving no srm problems, but like i said i have not tracked it...yet...

The rev match works well with the 4.08 on my 7 AT. If i shift at 8000 it drops to 6900 rpm in the next gear. You have to shift really fast to keep up with in the first 3 gears.
Fuel mileage droped 20 %
100 km with stock gears = 2100 rpm
with 4.08's 2800 rpm
was 37 mpg nows it 31 mpg.
The good thing is that I can dyno the car in 5th and not hit the speedlimiter in 4th.

eliminator are you changing the gears with the s.c.?

Z eliminator 07-27-2010 11:38 AM

No im going to run the 4.08 gears. I have a 3.57 diff for it that i have on my 350. I may change it

jnaut 07-27-2010 10:11 PM

ill post up the sheet tomorrow, but 318 hp @ 7900 rpm, over all i am very pleased :)

dont forget contact JACK @ HPLOGIC FOR ALL YOUR TUNING!!

christian370z 07-27-2010 10:21 PM

Those are great numbers, how much did you pick up with the tune? I could only image how good that must sound, what is your redline set at? Is 8k rpm a safe rev limit on a stock engine?

HP Logic 07-27-2010 10:52 PM

goes something like this:

jnaut 07-28-2010 07:16 AM

Jack , have you ever thought about going into movies?

Diocletian 07-28-2010 09:22 AM

Damnit, that's 18HP more then me, are the combination of LTH, u/d pulley and gears helping that much?

Also, I thought switching to the 4.08 gears broke the SRM(as well as cruise control but who cares) on 7ATs. If that's seriously not the case I think I know my next mod!

Edit: J, I need to visit you at some point, I need some paint touched up on my car and I heard you have a body shop near you that does excellent work(I saw RCZ's car).

HP Logic 07-28-2010 10:07 AM

The gears will offset the drive enough to use 5th gear on the dyno....that can account for part of the gain...but the longtubes seem to help this puppy breathe at high RPM...Pulley will always help a little as well....Ive known J for a long time and can tell you one thing...he has a reputation for making more power with the same mods as everyone else...its just in his nature...haha...

RCZ 07-29-2010 08:46 AM

Thats a lot of power on that dyno, wow. Damn good job Jack!

Car sounds good too!

we did a bease line @ 308, then went from there. as for 8k i dont think nissan build this engine on the ragged edge to where a 500rpm increase would be detrimental.

no prob just let me know when you want to drop off the car :tiphat:

I think Nissan is pretty intelligent when it comes to engineering an engine and giving purposefully giving it a redline of 7500 rpms... so pushing it back to 8k isn't going to hurt the longevity of the engine by a "detrimental" amount?

I was thinking about this this morning. Manufacturers of production cars always err on the side of caution, so I figure the car should be able to rev to up to 8,000 RPM with a proper tune N/A without issue.

That is very true, thanks for the insight. I figured I would ask anyway since the VQ serie engines are very stout and well engineered but each brand and type of engine is slightly different.

8,000 rpm sounds awesome on the dyno run!

That's a good point, 8,000 does sound extreme given the fact that the power of these engines still peak very high in the rev range.

wolf370z 07-29-2010 09:53 PM

However, if someone could confirm that pushing the engine to 8k rpm would barely affect the longevity of the engine it'd allow for more time at the peak power level...which would make the use of full exhaust, cai, u/d pullies, 4.08 gears, and tires modded cars even more potent. Definitely something I may be considering (minus gears).

Would be curious to see how fast a 1/4 mile pass it could pull off.

BalanBro 07-30-2010 09:41 PM

7500k is already pretty high for a 3.7L v6. I'm sure it's built tough, but that is alot of mass moving at a really high velocity. There is always a factor of safety wth these kinds of things, but only nissan knows how much.

NewYorkJon34 07-31-2010 05:25 PM

Yo Jnaut where's that video you were talking about? Is this not the right tuning thread?
