Uprev Tune Issue

Got my car tuned with Uprev through a local tuner about 3 weeks ago, I had also purchased the arc license for the flame/ burble maps. My car has K&N drop-in filters, a muffler delete, and mind that my CATS are stock.

I understand that the pops and bangs maps would already sound weak/quiet when I have stock CATS and exhaust, but I wanted to see for myself, and it did sound great for my liking. The car felt and sounded amazing during these few weeks driving around for about 300-500 miles after the tune. But I recently out of nowhere noticed that my pops and bangs sound extremely quieter than they always were. I was driving home one day and I can hear that all my burbles sound very different... as if they are now muffled 3x more. I will still get the occasional bang, but every other pop and burble is much quieter than it was say even a day before. They used to sound so clear and so crisp, but now they just sound so muffled all of the sudden and I have no idea why!

The actual tone of the car sounds a little quieter as well, my cold starts are not as aggressive... which is very odd. I am just very confused on why the car is doing this.

Anyone had a similar issue/ experience with this? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

Your cats are probably failing. Horrible idea to try a pops and bangs/ crackle/ flame map with stock cats. Who did the tune?

My first thought also was that the cats are failing, but my Z is very new only 27k miles so I didn’t think it was that, as they should have a lot of juice left in them. I got the burble map with stock cats because I wanted to hear how “bad” or “quiet” it sounds as everyone always says. I was planning to get test pipes some time down the road.

Did the tuner explain to you how the burble/crackle/flame maps work? And at least warn you that they're bad for the engine? I would never have done one with stock cats... they could literally fail the next day.

Doesn't matter if it's straight off the factory line or has 100k miles on the odometer -- running raw fuel through a catalytic convertor will cause it to stop functioning properly. The burble-and-pop mode runs raw fuel through the cats. The outcome was inevitable.

providing his map has been done by someone who knows what they’re doing, it’s highly unlikely to cause any internal issues..OEMs have ECU tunes that include burbles that are reliable and designed to last 100,000+ miles of hard use.

I would just get the z1 tps and some aftermarket exhaust..

if your after nice sounding burble, sporty yet still classy... The tune i have was done with engine health/longevity in mind and my car still burbles (no pops) a bit on downshifting from higher speeds down to low rpm/speeds. Sounds amazing. I've got headers/cats/exhaust and you dont have to worry about your cats failing prematurely. Though the flames look dope, id do it if it didnt come with all the loud pops imo.

Got it, thanks for the info guys. Looking into getting TP's already I just wanted to hear someone else's opinion on this situation. The cats aren't necessarily fried because I did not get a CEL, but it's noticeable enough you know? Anyway, this would do the trick, and the "flames" are just an extra, the burbles are mainly what I like and just sound nice on decel and downshifts and this will just tie it in together even nicer!

Cheers.

WA doesn't require emissions testing anymore either so no problems with the test pipes.
