Help me find a tuner

Hi all,

I am almost done with a lot of upgrades done with the car that the main one will be support E85, I do have a TT on the car and the car already tuned with ecutek but now needs to get retune. As I am in the DFW area (near Dallas TX) and new to the area the only tuner around me that I know about is AdminTuning and he like 3 hours away from me. Seeing him and Eugene Turkov fight on Facebook like kids make me to rethink using anyone of them, are you agree? I did talked with Eugene Turkov over the phone and he do sound like he know what he talks about but it will be a remote tune on a dyno and I don't know how good it will be. Also, if I am going remote why not use Sub as we all know is one of the best tuners out there. I can also pull my car to Z1 but it an easy 10-12 hours drive a direction.

Also, not all tuners will do one adaptive map that will read the E levels from a sensor. most of them will only do 2 maps, one for 93 and one for E85 and I don't understand why. is this a big issue or 2 maps are ok?

My car is track dedicated that I do drive to and from the track but I do not DD drive it at all. the most I will take it for a weekend drive but 99.9% it will be on the track.

after all of this can anyone please recommend me on a tuner :icon17:

Thank you!

Go with Seb and remote tune it.

I’ve had three tuners and Seb was the second. He hooked me up after the first guy just totally screwed me. He even helped me with my return fuel system. After I installed the topgunz A2A kit he couldn’t get it to start after 7 maps. Don’t get me wrong, he seems to be a great guy and tuner but never really talked to me much and eventually started not responding much to my emails. Anybody knows if you have a car your working on and it’s not running right, you want to know how to get it fixed. Remote tuning is difficult due to the fact that he tuner can’t drive the car or listen to it. Long story short, I was told to contact Eugene Turkov. He got my car running like new after one map. He has been nothing but supportive and answers all my questions with anything I have. He’s always willing to help out. He has even called me and also teaches along the way how to use ecutek, so you as the owner can know somewhat, what to look for if something don’t seem right. The so called childish thing between him and Admin, that seemed to be started by admin over a simple true statement that he didn’t like. I mean I don’t know, but that’s what I read. I havnt heard any bad comments about Eugene, but many toward admin. I even had some bad business with admin myself. I’m about to purchase the new TopgunZ ACE kit, and will be tuning again with Eugene Turkov. He is def one of the most knowledgeable on ecutek and the VQ platform. Do some research man and in the end go with who you want, and don’t base it off the so-called childish whatever. You want your car tuned to run good and for what you use it for, not to blow up in the first week.

I just want to add on to this a little: I've also had three tuners, namely Sebastian, Admintuning and Eugene. For various reasons that I don't feel like getting into I was ultimately not completely satisfied with Sebastian or Admintuning. I know they both are highly respected tuners and I never doubted their capabilities but they also leave much to be desired in the support department.

With Eugene the tuning experience is completely different in a very positive way. He is extremely responsive and will take the time to call and review the logs while explaining everything. No more e-mailing a log and get a tune back within an indeterminate amount of time with vague changes. A very important consideration for Eugene that I didn't even realize at the time until I did more research about it is the fact he's the only tuner that I'm aware of who does full speed density tunes, no hybrid ********. If you are venting excess air back into atmosphere with a bypass/blow off valve you should be running full speed density (here's a decent video explaining why, it's for a Subaru but it's the exact same concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7mNu7QACrQ). And at last, this is a completely personal reason but Eugene has a background in software development as do I. One thing you realize is there's a rather large crossover between software development and tuning, both can require large amounts of data analysis and problem solving.

Bad advice is free to a point. When it cost you an engine, you will learn the hard way.

We will see about that. Engine's are rather simple and very well understood objects that have been around for a very long time now. It's not exactly difficult to learn and come to your own conclusions as you are hopefully data logging and reviewing your own logs yourself to see how your car is running.

I got to know Eugene through of all people, "cupcakez" and have had a multiple phone conversations with him. He is a super nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. If Seb wasn't tuning my car, Eugene would be. Eugene know's that and completely understands. He never tried to pressure me into tuning my car. My car has been tuned by Seb ever since I went boosted. My car gets put on his dyno (no remote tuning) and returned to me running perfectly. Any questions I've had for Seb by phone or email have been answered promptly and explained in as much detail as I want. He also does full speed density tunes if needed. From what I understand some cars do require a full speed density tune when running a vta bov. Subaru happens to be one of them. Mitsubishi evo's also. The Z and GTR both don't need full speed density. My car(s) have been running a hybrid tune since 2017 and they both ran perfectly. When my car goes in for tune here shortly with my new upgrades, I'll see if Seb want's to go to full sd.

This is as waste of my time. I am not going to sit here and try to explain anything to you. You already know it all.

As an Ecutek Master Tuner in Michigan and having been tuning/messing with 370Zs for the past 6 years, I have yet to meet a tuner who is supportive, thoughtful, creative, and intelligent as Eugene. On top of that, his daily job is working at NASA!

If I was not a tuner, I definitely know who would be tuning my 370Z.

I know you're being a little arrogant, but yes, I generally do know enough as the basics are pretty simple. While my car has been beat on almost daily for the last 50,000 miles with zero problems if one ever does occur I have enough common sense to not blame the tune because of reaching mechanical limits. I took the time to learn and understand so I can verify that my car is operating as safely as it can, but there is always going to be a limit to how much abuse a mechanical device can take, no matter what "tune" is operating it.

I don't think you quite understand that I have ZERO issue with Sebastian, I very much like him and I think he's one of the greatest tuners for the VQs with incredible experience and reputation. I just simply preferred the customer service and support that was offered by Eugene more and that's just my opinion, take it how you will. But your apparent misguided views of "If you get a tune by anyone other than Sebastian your engine will blow up" is so hilariously wrong.

Did I say that? Noop. My tune is from someone else. The guy above has a twin turbo car. You better damn well know the limits. Seb does. Eugene does not. Seb has years of experience and has seen many things. That is what you want. The tuning is the easier part.

Spooler 10-04-2020 09:40 PM

Yeah, I may come across arrogant. So what. When I see a train wreck coming I speak up. If it comes across that way, so what. I don't care. The guy above needs someone to guide him in the right direction. He/she may not have enough money to fix the engine if it blows. It dang sure isn't cheap. Look at the guy that had Admin tuning tune his turbo car. He popped the motor at the track first time out. I haven't seen him back on here in a while. He may have parted out. That is the stuff that we don't want to see happen to fellow forum folks. Look at Cupcake's train wreck. Enough said.

With all due respect, that is a very subjective opinion. Eugene has tuned over 100 boosted VQs and has not had a single one fail. He is actually tuning the fastest G37 currently (22 psi stock block) and has yet to have any problems.

Also, check who TopGunz recommends as a tuner for his latest SC kits. That will tell you a lot.

The cupcakez situation is definitely not tune related, one can easily figure that one out by reading the hundreds of posts.

Anyone passing through, let this be a lesson.

Be wary of the old-guard in any forum. It's ok to suggest someone go in a certain direction, and why. It's not ok however to say that any step in a direction other than what you recommend will result in catastrophe.

We should all avoid being so caught up talking with each other that we forget there's hundreds of people watching and absorbing information. Hyperbole is the death of discussion in a forum.

Back to the OP, you've dropped thousands of dollars into a build. The first step in an informed decision is to have a discussion with each of the tuners referenced here. You DESERVE to have their methodology explained to you. You DESERVE to come away with a sense of understanding of how the process should go. Then and only then, will you be able to make an informed decision. Anything less is the result of you outsourcing the decision-making process to strangers who claim to have your best interest at heart.

Outsourcing that process is what costs you a motor.
