Ecutek launch control on Manual Transmission
 
I had some questions on Lauching a Manual Z using the EcuTek Lauch control. I have a Ecutek tune by Dynosty on my Z and everytime I try launching the vehicle using the Launch control, it always tends to spin the wheels till redline. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, and hope someone can chime in.

1. Auto Rev Match ON
2. First Gear
3. Hold the clutch and Plant the throttle. Engine RPMs hold at 4k
4. Cruise control down button to set RPM to 2-2.5k
5. Dump the clutch with throttle at 100%

I tried this with Traction control ON, and OFF. With DTC OFF, The tires break lose as soon as I dump the clutch. With DTC ON, it cuts power.
Do I have to reduce and modulate throttle input as soon as I let of of the clutch? I assumed the RPMs will hold at Set RPM until the tires hook up (similar to vehicles which come stock with Launch control), but it just starts spinning all the way to the red line. Had much better launches without using this feature and by feathering the throttle. Am I not doing it right?:icon14:

Thanks. I went through these links. Most of the focus is on how to engage launch control and how to set RPM. Nobody really mentions what to do when you dump the clutch.

I know zero about electronic launch control but "dumping the clutch" doesn't sound like the way to go. With the clutch fully engaged at a standstill, you will either stall the engine, break the wheels loose, or cause the clutch to slip. Plus it's hard on the drivetrain. Try feathering the clutch a little until you get moving.

Or wait until someone that knows what they are talking about chimes in.

You need to modulate the throttle still. If you have adjustable traction control, you can try to play with that.

I don't think the tune made any changes to the way Traction control reacts. I don't have adjustable Traction control (as far as I know). The tires do light up when I release the clutch, so I'll try feathering the clutch with the accelerator to the floor. Maybe that'll hold the revs until the wheels hook up.

If I have to modulate throttle after releasing the clutch, then I don't know how this feature helps launch the car better. I can hold the revs via modulation manually to get a better launch. Not sure if I'm missing something or expecting too much from the feature.

The job of the launch control is to keep you from bogging or launching at too high of a rpm. It is not a traction control to keep the wheel from spinning

Launch control simply allows you to set the RPMs and the car holds them for you until you launch. Traction control is another matter entirely. Practice practice practice. Adjustable traction control helps, too. Ecutek can create custom TCS maps for this purpose - check with your tuner.

Like what was said before, launch control doesn't use traction control to manage grip when you initiate. You can however run a custom traction control map that does manage slip and use it with launch control. I currently have mine based on a % of slippage and RPM. It is still faster to modulate your clutch and feed gas progressively than solely rely on traction control to quell wheel spin. The stock traction control system is trash and only recommend using it for normal driving IF you don't have your own customized traction control system. Yaw is still it's own thing that can intervene with your custom TCS map.

Thank you All for the feedback. I was under the impression that Launch control with Ecutek would also use traction control to manage Grip. It is definitely faster to work the clutch and throttle and get a better launch.

Just nut up and get a MOTEC 150. Problem solved. Not cheap though.

When I first tuned my Z with Ecutek, it launched perfectly. Ecutek is programmed to retard timing for a few seconds so you can gain traction, even at full throttle...after my tuner revised some parameters per my request, launch control held its rpm but put full power after the clutch dropped. So much so that my diff subframe bushing popped its cherry.

My tuner denies changing any parameters so I just do it the old fashioned way and preload with the ebrake and modulate the throttle from about 2-5% throttle up instead of 100% down. The only thing is it would defeat the purpose of having that function in the first place
