Launch Control and Maps Gone?

Howdy do folks,

So I found out last Friday that my launch control for some reason had stopped working. I thought, maybe something funky or I didn't depress the pedals all the way. So I try again today and no luck yet again. I also go to change my map to find out there is only 1! I originally had 3 maps. Called the tuner (PTuning) and they say they've never heard of the maps just disappearing. I have not had a retune or anyone (that i know of) put a cable to my OBDII. I have surely unhooked my battery between August 2017 and now, but that shouldn't cause this issue correct?

I have them sending me the tune file and I will reload it to see if that fixes it. Does anyone have any insight on what the issue may be? Did the googles search of a few combinations of wording and didn't come up with anything (words + the370z.com before i get flamed).

Ecutek Tuned*

Thanks in advance,

Joe

I have never heard of this, but my question is, if the map is "gone", what map are you driving on? Something is there

lj909 04-11-2018 01:10 PM

Are you running Ecutek or UpRev?

When I say "gone", there is only map 1 available, which should have launch control. I agree it is running on something, but possibly reverted back to stock somehow?

Apologies, Ecutek. OP will be updated.

Sounds like it was flashed with mapswitch modes disabled.. otherwise you would be able to move around between the available modes.

I agree, but last year when I had the car out before winter I had no issues switching. I personally did the switching of maps and it was working. Unless this mapswitch disable was something that could've been turned on without me knowing.

I am able to hold in "cancel" on cruise and it goes to 1. Just can't go up or down to change maps.

Did you try re-flashing the map?

SouthArk370Z 04-11-2018 04:39 PM

First thing I'd do is check the manual* and make sure I hadn't turned map switching off. Or you may have put it in some sort of valet mode.

Edit: Ecutek manual.

One of my maps was a valet mode map. Car performs normally, just no launch control and i can't switch map.

When you say manual, are you referring to the FSM or some Ecutek manual? Apologies for the confusion.

After re-reading my posts, I can understand the confusion. I meant the Ecutek manual for procedures to switch modes.

Edit: My guess is that the other maps are still there, it's just that you have lost the ability to access them. You may have accidentally turned off that feature.

Did you place the vehicle in valet mode before you parked it?

Negative, only time i have put it in valet is when i tested to make sure maps worked when i first got it tuned last year. Unless my fiance somehow figured out how to mess with the maps ha, it should've been on map 1.

Side note, I emailed Ecutek today detailing the issue. Possibly they would know something. Still waiting on the file to reflash from the tuner.

Update for those of the interested variety.

Ptuning sent me the file 2013, i have a 2017. This was my old car so i don't think that would've worked. They search for my tune from august of 2017, and conclude it was on a computer that had become corrupted, huzzah!

At this point i have the Ecutek support and Ptuning copied on every email. I have collected a ROM dump per Ecutek's request and will be doing a log of trying to go through the process of switching maps. So, at this point, i am still SOL on these features.

I am about 3 hours away from PTuning, so it's not an easy pop in for me. I said that if no solution or fix was found then i would expect a retune. I didn't blame the shop for this, as it seems to be quite the mystery. PTuning told me we would cross that bridge when we get there after we see what Ecutek comes back with.

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but am i wrong to assume i should get a retune at no cost (save for my gas money i'll have to spend)? I would imagine that if it wasn't anything the tuner had done incorrectly, then maybe they should be reimbursed from Ecutek if it was some sort of software glitch? Again, they haven't said no to this, they just don't seem to want to admit it right now.

Final update!

First off, problem has been fixed. Turns out, somehow map switching had become disabled. This must have happened due to a revised tune that was sent to me for a cel light and disabled it.

Since Ptuning had lost my file to reflash onto my ECU, Ecutek was able to pull that off of my ECU and add on the part that activates the map switching.

Ecutek service via email was great. No problems and understood all instruction well. He was prompt also. ONLY negative here was that my support guy was in England, so times were a bit funky.

Ptuning support.... Initially i spoke with 3 different "front desk" guys (not sure the term for them). First Harry, then Nathan, and finally Jack. First two did not seem to care all too much in helping. I would call in the AM most days, both said they would check on whatever it was in the question and said they'd call back. Of course later in the day close to closing hours i'd call back and get a different person. Very annoying. Finally got Jack from one of such above calls. He was super helpful and called back when he said he would. Also sounded sincere in his attempts to help me out. Were it not for said Jack, Ptuning would lose my future business. It was annoying that they lost my tune file from August of 2017 due to hard drive corruption, but not something that is planned *cough* make backup saves *cough*.

Anyways, all is well and fixed. Thanks for listening!

Ecutek support is absolutely amazing, they really care about their customers, I am proud to sell their products and services.

Bumping an old post...

Has anyone else come across this issue?

I'm currently having this issue with my car. I don't think the tuners disabled map switching because when I picked up my car from their shop today, I confirmed I was able to switch maps.

I had this happen to me 2 weeks ago, the tuners then flashed the same maps onto my car today and all went well until I started the car again, it's been 2 hours since the last drive. The maps disappeared again...

Tuned on Ecutek

Birdiev 01-19-2022 12:23 AM

Yes.I have as well. Tuned on ECUTEK.I was working on car powered it up (Hit the acc button) with electronic disconnected and computer threw a permanent code.I guess the computer went into some safe mode (racerom file) and I wasn't able to access the maps.Even after fixing permanent code I couldn't cycle maps. Long story short (Mechanic vs tuner) The tuner did a flash and everything began working again.even though there is no check engine light the computer stores the code .have to go in there manually and erase all check engines codes before I could get it to work. That's my experience.

Have you had it happen again?

Because the first time it happened, I thought it was a once off. But I got the car back from the shop yesterday and it happened again on the same day! After asking around, it seems like it's an ecutek software issue

Birdiev 01-20-2022 11:39 PM

No just this one time.not sure if the tuner can apply some kind of fail safe mode if the car is not running right or detecteds some kind of issue.hopeing you get it resolved.
