Ecutek traction control
 
Ok so I now have ecutek tune and really liking it but have not pushed the car yet (no track days coming up soon). I am still a bit confused on the traction control feature. So the way mine is set is I have a 0-100% selectable traction control when VDC is off so I understand that part. The part I am confused about is from the factory to my understanding VDC is more than just traction control, it will also help straighten the car out (through inputs from the yaw sensor and steering angle sensor). Now with VDC off (Oem) you no longer have those assist, as tested in open lot figure 8 testing it will let you spin with no interference. So now with ecutek and VDC off with selectable traction control what happens to the stability assist part of VDC? Is it completely off like Oem or does it reduce with the % of traction assist you select? I'm a bit lost on how the other parts of VDC get effected, I understand the traction control portion of how much wheel slip it allows before fuel cut, ignition retard or however the tuner has decided to reduce power but what happens to the dynamics control of the system?

As far as I know, with VDC off, Brake Assist is still activated. Now, I am guessing that Ecutek Traction control may take over VDC and Brake assist. After I got tuned, I left VDC On and launched at 2k rpms, felt like grip was good and ready to go and let the clutch out all the way and somewhat eased down the trottle , but my brakes were burning and the car going no where. Do not have that issue when I turn VDC off. Don't know the science behind it, just from experience

So if the brake assist (or dynamic control is what I think we're referring to) is still there with VDC off then there is no true VDC off option like factory has? Would maybe need a map with Oem VDC off for drift mode 😄. I think I'll have to dig into it a bit more with the tuner to see just what adjustable VDC off parameters are effected. I like the idea of the adjustable wheel slip in VDC off but I don't want to be losing the stability assist. As far as I know VDC on is still like oem so that would match your result with VDC on and not going anywhere.

VDC off on an OEM car does not completely turn VDC off, it just greatly reduces the interference of the system. The only way to truly kill VDC is to unplug the yaw sensor or pull the abs fuse which will also kill the tail lights.

For the ECUTek traction control, you can reduce it to 0% which would simulate VDC being completely off/disabled from what I was told. Adding in percentage of traction control would start to simulate an OEM VDC off condition. Probably best to contact ECUTek themselves to ask what they do in their software though.

Yea that was my first thought but I can't find an ecutek contact, more like they want to be completely hands off and just have everything go through the tuner.

I've heard that about the VDC off Oem isn't truly off but it's odd as it let me spin a full 180 with no interference or trying to keep the car straight at all. Would really like a concrete answer as to if it adjust just wheel
Slip or also the level of tail happiness before it engages. I'll see my tuner next month for a dyno tune and see if I can get more detail as to just what it is adjusting.

I emailed last week about disabling the abs/edb system and here is what they had to say, hope this helps you.

Or you can make a switch to disable the yaw senor, is what i will be doing

Ok cool. So it sounds like it is strictly effecting the wheel slip/power cut portion of the ECM and not the stability control. At my level I was more concerned about it eliminating the driver assist rather than trying to cut it out. I have heard of "ice mode" but have not experienced it and hope not too but I don't think I want to eliminate the stability assist by disabling the yaw sensor, so for me it's good to know that turning down the wheel slip doesn't effect the stability portion.
