New motor, do I need a retune?

so putting in a new motor with low miles and I'm wondering if I need to get it retuned as I got it dynotuned previously. Is it necessary? I was told that it might need to be put on the dyno just in case to see if numbers match up, but that requires even more money and I'm not sure if it's necessary. Thanks guys

I would say absolutely. No 2 motors are the same, even off the same assembly line. Your dyno tune was made for your old engine. It may line up with the new one, but chances are it'll require some adjustments.

Could it potentially mess anything up severely if I were to take some time off before taking it back to get it tuned? By that, I mean driving around before headed to the shop? Reason I ask is because funds are pretty low after getting a new motor.

Depends on why you popped your last one. I wouldn't go through all that and not re-tune. Why not reflash to the stock tune for the meantime?

I wouldn't worry. People drive around with generic tunes and other people's tunes all the time when they don't want to shell out money for a custom tune

Considering how easy it is to flash back to stock, I can't imagine why you wouldn't just run the stock tune until you can get it tuned again.

How easy is easy? Does it require me to take it to a shop? I didn't tune this myself. On the uprev software

Put the cable in and select the option to ref lash back to stock.

I don't have a cable. I had a shop tune it for me.

You should pick one up. Otherwise, once you swap the motor limp it over to the shop and have him switch it back to stock. A good shop wouldn't charge you.

I'll look into it. Can I buy the cables in stores or only online?

From uprev.

If you are installing the same mods, then the old tune should be "good enough" - ie, may not make optimum power but shouldn't hurt anything. But I wouldn't push it very hard until tune is checked.
