UpRev ECU tune results for Semtex's Z

Okay guys, I just got back from having my car dyno-tuned by Sharif over at Forged Performance. First off, I'd like to say a big thank you to Sharif for spending so much time tuning my car today -- he spent a little over 4 hours and did like 30 pulls getting the most he could out of my car. :tiphat:

So here are the results:

With A/F ratios:
http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...e102809_AF.jpg

Baseline: 311.9. Final number: 318.1 Net gain: 6.2whp

Needless to say, I'm a little underwhelmed. Sharif's theory is that my car's stock tune was pretty stout to begin with, hence the gains to be had via tuning may be comparatively small. It actually makes sense. Those of you who have been following my mods and my gains know that I've been getting dyno numbers that have been somewhat higher than most. That has led some to refer to my car as a factory freak. (And it's also led some douches to question the veracity of my numbers.) Well, maybe my ECU tune results bear out the 'factory freak' theory. Maybe my car really is/was a factor freak in that my ECU came from the factory unusually mod-friendly. It would account for the wide gaps between my numbers and some of the others I've observed. Nissan does ship the Z out with many different ROMs, after all. If others get large gains from ECU tuning while I get a small one, it evens everything up and the universe makes sense again, for all of us.

One other thing that may be coming into play is heat soak. 30 pulls, give or take a couple, folks. That's a lot of time on the dyno. Sharif actually shut things down for a half hour at one point to just let the car cool, and when he did the next run, it immediately came in 4whp higher. So my point is that my gain from this may actually be understated.

I will say this -- when I drove home, my car felt significantly quicker. When I hit the throttle, my thought was "there's no way I only gained 6."

SO . . . I'm going to schedule a baseline run over at a local shop that has a DynoJet. My last DynoJet run at that same shop yielded 330whp. We'll see what I make on their DynoJet now. I'll update this thread when I get the DynoJet results in.

(As always, please remember to rep if you found this info useful. ;))

Those are some very strong numbers on Sharif's dyno.. no matter what anyone says! Congrats!

Well done Sem!

In for the dynojet results, and as I said in your journal, your car has done great with just bolt ons so a tune might just be scraping out those few extra HP. But glad to know you are feeling some difference, makes spending the money easier. :)

Thanks for being patient while I continued punching away at your car. Your car came in with a very respectable OEM tune, so I knew it would be a challenge to extra anymore power from the engine. I can look like a hero, if the OEM tune is completely out of whack...but your's was just about spot on. :)

The next highest 370Z I have tuned made right at 300whp so you definately have a very strong 370Z. Hope to see you at Road Atlanta next month.

i guess this explains the way your car has responded to mods. i know my friend got tuned at uprev while i was watching and only gained 10hp with every bolt on you can get (minus headers) on a vq35de. the tuner said his car was already running about as good as it was going to get. and that gains seem to fluctuate depending on how the car was setup from the factory

Nope, not any time soon at least.

FANTASTIC job Ben!

Great job Semtex! You DO have a factory freak! :icon17: Numbers looks great. We (forum members) really do appreciate your dedication for the 370Z community. Big thanks to Sharif as well for his time and energy!

Very respectable numbers indeed, especially for dyno dynamics. Had a feeling the tune wouldn't squeeze out too much more from your car, but it probably made it feel more responsive.

still awesome numbers regardless. 318 on the heartbreaker is nothing to worry about.

320whp out of an NA V6 on a dyno dynamics is amazing semtex, nothing to sneeze at. I'm going to get tuned on the same MustangDyne Dyno I got 310whp (HPLogic) on. According to your theory I should only pick up a few hp.. maximum maybe 10whp?

I think you have the strongest N/A car on the boards, congrats...for now. Don't pop the champ till Sat ;)

Wish I still had my HFC for this high horsepower competition lol. I get mine done tomorrow and will update then. Only problem is I also will be getting my G3 installed also and haven't had a baseline on the dyno at UpRev. I did 274.8 or something like that on a DD at EngineLogics in Houston with just the FI exhaust and stock everything else including cats so hopefully this will be a bit better with the cooler weather helping even more !

6hp is still quite respectable!

The peak hp gain shouldn't be our biggest concern here anyway, it's what was gained THROUGHOUT the rev range. I'd be interested to see the before and after graph's superimposed on each other cos I bet the reason the car feels like its got more than 6hp is because lower down in the rev range it has. Even if there were zero increase in peak hp but bigger gains throughout the rest of it i'd be stoked!

Oops, sorry my bad - the dyno graphs didn't show up on the computer at work and have just had a gander at them at home. Looks like you've gained a heap of torque below 3250rpms, that alone is worth getting the tune done.
