1/8 Mile run

Hey guys, I ran my Z for it's first time on the drags trip. I got a 8.9 as my best time out of seven runs. I averaged 9.0-9.2. It is a six speed manual sport touring. 1200 miles on it. I was slipping the whole way and it is bone stock. Is a 8.9 slow because i have seen many threads with people averaging 8.2.

Before I knew how to dragrace properly, i would run 9.2 ish myself. I then began to hold my RPM about 2-3k and launch and got up to 8.6. Try waiting a while between your runs and letting the engine cool off, and waiting also allows the launch pad to become more tacky so you get a better grip when stomping on the gas. 8.9 isnt slow, its average, you just gotta practice with higher launch RPM's. Sidenote, I have a supercharger and barely make 8.2, no way there are stock Z's running that time

Thanks guys for the tips. I have factory sports on there now, will slicks shave off time?

any traction added will help but if you want slicks that a whole different ball game. i mean drag radials should be your first step if thats the route you're going. also bumping down to 18" wheels would be even better but most wont clear rear sport brake calipers.

we actually have had a recent thread discussion on all this.

http://www.the370z.com/track-autocro...-time-10s.html

theres some good wheel/tire and suspension info in here for quicker times. a lot of experience and knowledge from some of these guys will go a long way at the track.

also my run was on stock ray wheels and michelin PSS tires in stock sizes.

Would drag radials stick good on the street too? A car with 8.5 on the track got left on the street by a 370z

It was my car, srt4 twin turbo 25psi boost dodge neon built ran a 8.4 in the 1/8 and I ran a 8.9. On the street I got him by three car lengths. It was a closed road with no traffic, 0-150

8.28 s with K&N drop-in's & tuned Achilles Sport2 tires only (street radials). My pass will be available on dragtimes within the next few days. Same here, that was an SS - he was cool about it, but didn't line up for a 3rd time later that night & neither did a struggling ZO6 that was in the mid to high 8's. Also helped out a manual Z driver later on. I can tell you how to exactly do this & faster if you want (60'), with stock power, in a private email - if you have the auto for club members ONLY. These are cheapo $78 tires.

I ran today and I am bone stock and got a 8.55. I smoked a auto camaro ss twice.
